Shareholder OBC question--odd situation...

Will do.  But I do disagree with your analysis. This is OBC.  It doesn’t go against the cost of the cruise. It makes no difference when all the charges are to the same card, like it usually is with a married couple.  When I travel with my husband, I couldn’t care less.  But with friends traveling together with separate accounts, it does make a difference.  I own the stock.  My friend that I’m sharing a cabin with doesn’t.  Our onboard charges are handled separately,  I usually use the OBC in the duty free shops.  But now the friend gets half of my OBC, increasing what I owe at the end of the trip and reducing hers.

like I said, we work it out amongst ourselves, nut it’s easier, cleaner and less awkward if the credit is all applied to me instead of split between us.

When I discussed the OBC with my pcc, I was told I could go to guest services and have it switched over to me once on board the ship (my 2 girlfriends each got $50 and I got zippo!  I'm the shareholder--neither one of them owns stock.  They are guest 1 & 2--I am guest 3)

I am doing a cruise with 3 other girls (I know, I know--I would have booked 2 cabins, but they wanted to share!)--I am listed as guest 3.  I got my shareholders benefit, but it was applied to guest 1 and 2!  You would think that they would assign it to the shareholder, but no.  They also automatically split it between guest 1 and 2--if a married couple, no problem, but with girlfriends, it could be.  Luckily, I'm very good friends with them!  They told me I could go to guest services once on board, but it would be tricky to switch it before sailing (plus, I didn't want to mess things up and possibly have the cruise cancelled!  LOL!)  Just thought it was really odd that they did it this way!

All 3 of you will have to go to Guest Services. Actually, you don’t need to go, just your friends. Just tell GS that they want to give $50 each to your account.

Just a quick update.  I heard back on my request.  I had put a note in the email and on the form itself that the credit be applied only to my account - not split between me and my friend,  They did it.  It shows as a $100 purchased OBC, only for me.  In the past it’s just shown as a credit for the cabin.  So it can be done.

I don’t know if it can be changed before sailing if it’s been split already.  I have another cruise scheduled for Dec 1 where I didn’t make the note and the $250 was split between us.  I’m not going to worry about it at this point, we‘ll work it out ourselves, but would be interesting to know if it can be adjusted prior to sailing.

Question

I purchased 100 ncl stocks in 2022 and send in my request for OBC. After 2 weeks an email came back to ask for an updated brokerage statement. Since I am not purchasing another 100 shares. See below

thank you for your email request regarding shareholder benefit, at this time we cannot apply the shareholder benefit the date on your brokerage statement is from last year.

We need your current brokerage statement to verify proof of 100 shares.

Quick question for those more experienced with the shareholder obc.

They split the $100 between my wife and I so it shows $50pp.

If I go over my $50, will the balance of whatever I'm doing/purchasing then come out of my wife's $50?

Is it treated as one $100 obc or is it separate?

I would imagine it's one lump sum, but I thought I'd check since it's my first experience with shareholder obc.

TIA

If both accounts are secured with the same credit card, they should be merged with a single total due, then charged to the credit card.  That means that the credit would crossover from one to the other.  Basically, it's really just one big account with some separations within it.  If both are not secured with the same card, then no.

Thank you! That's what I thought.

We are 1 cabin, 1 reservation and 1 CC!

Thanks for the quick response.

That is not how it has ever worked for us, for this to happen we have always had to go to guest services and asked for our online accounts to be merged.
We always travel as a couple in one cabin and one credit card but once I spend my half of the shareholder OBC I start running into the red until I merge the accounts.

You don’t need to buy another 100 shares.  They are simply asking for a current brokerage statement showing that you still own the shares.  This happened to me once.  I had sent the same redacted statement that I had used for a previous cruise.  They said the statement needed to be dated within 90 days of the request.  Understandable.  I simply printed and redacted the current statement and sent it in.  The credit was posted within 24 hours.  Easy Peasy.

Update...the 1st request never "processed" as worded in the email (remember, the email for our Nov cruise isn't worded that way & DID post that day).

I sent a 2nd request w/ form & documents on July 5.

On July 10 I got the email--with that same damn "will be processed" wording.

NOTHING on the reservation yet. 🫥

I tried to resolve via chat & they said since it is a Casinos at Sea issue to contact them.

I contact them & they say this it handled via another dept.🤬

3 weeks out & I leave 2 weeks from Monday--maddening not to get this resolved.

Reminds me of trying to cancel Vibe for the 2nd week of a BTB while onboard the 1st week.

(they told me I would need to call--from the ship??!! Then they would email & "try"...never happened)

Sigh.

Gotta say NCL, there are things I LOVE LOVE LOVE about you (Syds, Waterfront, production shows) but the runaround I get on things like this, the labor cuts & production cuts make it harder & harder to consider you for our hard earned $.

@KKB  - Was looking to see if Miami has successfully processed your 2nd request 😟 but ... give them a few more days, hopefully it'll be taken care of (memo / reminder to others - nowadays, NCL will honor these OBC submission up to 2 weeks prior to embarkation (or, is it 15 days ... calendar or business days 🤔)  and you have a digital email trail to use.

Worst case scenario - have the emails available & onboard, speak to the CruiseNext folks and they can track it down to help get it credited to your onboard account (someone else recently did it successfully and apparently, their request was "missed" somehow)

Good luck, enjoy the cruise and cheers !

So something similar is happening with my Oct cruise but opposite emails and amenity statement issue. I sent form and brokerage statement in on June 27th got the auto reply that it has been received and is being processed on the same day. On July 6, I received an email that said:

"Thank you for contacting Norwegian Cruise Line.
Your shareholder benefit onboard credit has been added to your reservation.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us again.

I also received a separate email with the Amenity Confirmation that on the last page shows:

Status: Grand Total 100.00 PENDING PAYMENT Balance Due 100.00

Items purchased are not confirmed until payment has been received.

I emailed the shareholder group again explaining that I received an email that the credit has been added to my reservation but the Amenity Confirmation states I have a balance due. I received an response email back the same day that said:

Thank you for contacting Norwegian Cruise Line.
Your shareholder benefit onboard credit has been added to your reservation as an amenity. It is processing, once complete the balance will reflect $0.

My reservation shows (and has shown since the first email) that I have a $100 purchased OBC under purchased items but it does not show the $100 on the summary page Reservation at a Glance under onboard spending. I booked through a TA so cannot see if I actually have a balance for the $100 (I'm after final payment so I shouldn't have a balance due) but its odd that it appears that I have purchased a $100 credit but can't see if they've zeroed out the balance. I am curious for those who have done this before if it only shows up as a purchased item or if it also shows up under Onboard Spending Money section ( example below) The $200 reflected is from my TA, I should have a total of $300 with the shareholder OBC, unless its not supposed to be reflected there.

Comment - If your TA is giving you $200 OBC, that is what you are seeing and the other $100 OBC isn't showing up there, correctly and should be there - for a total of $300.  Give NCL's system to update overnight, if still not showing up after processing.  Contact shareholders support again.

We have another request in "progress" - will keep my eyes on them as well.  Please share if yours successful get posted.

This is how mine is showing this time.  In the past it’s always shown up in the summary section, but this time it’s showing as a purchased item, all assigned to me, not to my cabin mate.  I have no amount due.  I had assumed it was because I asked that the credit not be split between us, but now I’m thinking this is their new way of recording the shareholder OBC.

Perfect, Thank you! There are 4 of us, I didn't ask for it to all go to me but maybe they can choose to have it go to one person if more than 2 guests and maybe this is how they do it now when it goes all to one person. Thank you for confirming!

Thank you! I will look for the update and will circle back with everyone. Another commenter posted that she requested 100% go to her and not be allocated between guest 1 and 2 and hers was set up like mine (under purchased items 100% to me), so I wonder if that is how they do it if it goes 100% to one person. Things are always changing so who knows.

THANK YOU FOR POINTING THIS OUT!

THIS is showing up on both cruises. FINALLY!

Weird, tho, on Nov cruise only, it shows up in Reservations at a Glance as well (the $100 On board spending $).

NOT sure why it isn't consistently being shown that way.

BUT WE HAVE THE OBC FINALLY!
