London Hotels

FWIW,

We just completed a 2 night stay at The Clermont London Victoria. We were very disappointed. The staff are very courteous (but not willing to address a routine request) and the location is excellent. However, it is quite pricey even by London standards and taking into consideration recent inflation.

The deluxe Queen room was spacious but the furnishings appeared to be cheap laminate and the bathroom is overdue for new finishes including some damage. Our assigned room had almost constant street noise until late in the evening and periodic noise from the room next to us.

This was our worst hotel visit in London in 5 or 6 visits.

Summary - good location but not a 4 or 5 star class hotel in or experience.

Not recommended.

We are considering some vrbos. To get to Southampton we will either take the National Express from Victoria Coach station or train from Waterloo. Here are my "favorites":

The Knaresborough (Kensington)

one near Gloucester Rd. And Queen's Gate terrace (Kensington)

The Locke at Broken Wharf (east of the Millennium Bridge by Trig Lane)

Based on location should we eliminate any?

Of the three you list, this would be the easiest for public transport. It's about 5 minutes walk to Earls Court Tube, where there is step-free access down to the District Line. I would then change at Westminster (step-free) to the Jubilee Line to go one stop to Waterloo, where there is step-free exit and step-free access up to the mainline concourse for the onward train to Southampton.

Don't try Gloucester Road Tube with luggage.

We have just booked a British isles cruise for September of 2025.   We booked 2 days in London pre cruise including all transfers - from Heathrow to hotel, hotel to ship, and ship to Heathrow.   The hotel we chose ( 1 of 2 offered) is Radisson Blu Edwardian grafton.   It is by the Warren street tube station on Tottenham road.   The other hotel was over by the tower bridge.  It was Leonardo tower bridge.       Does anyone have any experience with either of these locations?

The Leonardo Tower Bridge is reasonably close to both the Tower itself and to Tower Bridge, and to the transport facilities there (chiefly Tower Hill Tube).

That Radisson Blu looks like it's very convenient for Warren Street Tube but precious little else (unless you want to visit University College Hospital a lot).

So from either hotel, you're going to have to travel to most or all of the places you're likely to want to see in London.

😀 Somewhat hilariously, it now seems to have been renamed the Radisson Blu Euston Square, which is, I suppose, the second closest tube station to the hotel....

One of our regular reminders that precision is often required with London street names. The hotel is on Tottenham Court Road - Tottenham Road is about 3 miles to the east.

Thank you Cotswold Eagle.  I thought we might have to travel from either of them.  I thought maybe Tottenham court road might have more pubs etc within walking distance than the one by the tower?

I’m afraid my knowledge of London pubs is rapidly fading into pre-history! There’s the Grafton Arms just round the corner. And you are not too far from the restaurants and pubs of Fitzrovia, centred around Charlotte Street (I used to have an association and squatting rights with a company with an office in Percy Street, but again any specific recommendations I might have would be dated!)

Look, neither location is terrible, but neither is quite anywhere if you see what I mean (and that’s probably why cruise lines get good deals there). Forced to make the choice, I can’t decide which I’d pick 😀 If you are going to the British Museum, that’s an easy walk from the Grafton.
