Trip Interruption

I'd be curious to know if trip interruption covers an relative at home becoming gravely ill and having to return home. My MIL is 86  and in relatively good health but one never knows.

See if your policy's fine print includes something similar to

  1. "A covered Sickness or Injury involving an Insured, Traveling Companion or Business Partner, or Family Member of an Insured or Traveling Companion which necessitates Medical Treatment at the time of interruption and results in medically imposed restrictions, as certified by a Legally Qualified Physician, which prevents an Insured’s continued participation in the Covered Trip;"

Note the "Legally Qualified Physician" requirement - and also the policy's definition of "Family Member"

The “Definitions” are crucial.

What does your policy define as a Family Member?

Also, since you stated gravely ill, I would also be concerned about Pre-existing medical conditions and how this may or may not affect a non traveling family member.
