Diane Rose Posted July 25, 2023 #1 Share Posted July 25, 2023 We are sailing into Rotterdam arriving at 7AM. Hoping to book a flight with miles. Most of the flights offered leave before 11AM which I assume would be too early. There is an 11:40AM flight and wondering if this would be OK to book. If that won’t work, we’ll spend the night and fly out the next morning.

gumshoe958 Posted July 25, 2023 #3 Share Posted July 25, 2023 Rotterdam to Schiphol is roughly a one hour drive, maybe more at that time on a weekday. If you’re looking at a transatlantic flight the advice is to arrive 3 hours before departure. So as you can see 11.40 is doable but tight and depends on an on-time arrival, a speedy disembarkation, no long queues at border control and a delay-free drive to Schiphol. Ot perhaps faster by train, but you need to get to the train station.
Jimbo Posted July 25, 2023 #5 Share Posted July 25, 2023 (edited) We are getting off a cruise ship in either Amsterdam(If our ship is still ending there) or Rotterdam if the ending port is switched to Rotterdam) Picking up another cruise ship in Barcelona 2 days later. So what time would be the safest time to book to make sure we can make a direct flight from Amsterdam to Barcelona same day the first cruise gets over.? So far have only seen connecting flights from Rotterdam to Barcelona and we don't want that plus the prices from there are much Higher then flying from Amsterdam. You would be fine with 11:00, or noon to be absolutely sure. For a short-haul intra-EU flight you can happily check in 90 minutes before departure.

I have seen this mentioned before with regard to my question elsewhere about kiosk luggage check and wondered what it means; . More specifically I have been trying to find out if US passengers, arriving on a ship into Amsterdam can use the airport kiosks to check baggage for an international flight home or will we have to stand in the baggage check line for our airline. badtwin Posted July 26, 2023 #8 Share Posted July 26, 2023 Decided to search "schengen" and got quite an education but still no answer to luggage kiosk issue.
gumshoe958 Posted July 26, 2023 #9 Share Posted July 26, 2023 (edited) Schengen has nothing to do with whether you can use self-service check-in kiosks at AMS. Nor does your nationality. It’s purely down to whether your airline has them or not. Some do, some don’t. Edited July 26, 2023 by gumshoe958
