Cabin recommandation for Dawn (Eastern Carribean)?

Dear "Cruisers"

I will attend my first cruise in December 2006, from NYC (Eastern Carribean Trip). I decided to book category BB (with balcony). Is there any recommandation about a precise room? Or can you recommend on witch side of the ship one shall stay (which side provides best view?).

I'd be very grateful if some of you would answer to my questions (and, of course, I'd also appreciate any other tip/advisory about staying with NCL, especially the Norwegian Dawn.

Warm greetings from snowy Switzerland

Sonne,

We stayed in 9636 (BB) on the port (left side) of the ship on our first cruise on the Dawn. It was located mid section around the corner from the elevators. Made it very easy to get from front to back of the ship.

As for which side is better. If you want to see the Satute of Liberty and Ellis Island when leaving NY, then the starboard (right side). You will see the NYC skyline as you return. There's no way to know which berth at the ports you will be in to know which one has a nicer view.

Whatever you decide you will love your cruise on the Dawn.

Have great cruise

Happy Sailing,

Monty

I agree with the starboard recommendation - nothing like the statue of liberty as you sail out! And the skyline when you sail back in.

When you book, look for a room that is not under or over a public venue such as a bar or the pool deck. I don't have the deck plan open right now, but there is at least one deck that is between two other cabin decks. I'd go for that.

The middle of the ship is more convenient and some say you are less likely to feel motion.

But the rear of the ship might be quieter - less traffic - and personally I like the exercise back and forth.

Best tip - do spend the modest extra money for the specialty dining rooms. It is a treat to try each one. So - as soon as you board, head for the line taking reservations and book for each night: Cagney's, Le Bistro, Teppanyaki, Salsa's (actually no charge I think), Tratoria. Do the Venetian for breakfast (or room service). And make sure to try Aqua and Impressions as well.

When you first board (after your dining reservations) have lunch way up top at the Bimini bar - most people don't realize there is food there so you'll have it to yourselves, great view of NY and people getting on board.

Enjoy!

A little different twist. Everyone always says mid ship. On the Dawn I like to be closer to the forward stairway/elevator. Check out the deck plan and look were the public areas you want to go.

I find myself using the forward access 70% of the time, Mid perhaps 20%, and aft 10%.

Forward gives me easy access up to Spinnakers, Pool Deck, Cinema, Bimini Bar and down to Stardust Theater, Dazzles, Gatsby's, Casino, Impressions, Bistro. Even easier to access the Garden Café thru the pool deck unless the weather is bad.

I only use mid ship to access - Star Bar, Cagney's, and perhaps the main desk. These are the cool glass elevators. Fun to ride in but not as fast as the regular ones and I find them much busier and end up using the forward ones and walking a little bit more

Aft access to Venetian, and perhaps Galleria Ships

When you return from port turn right (most of the time) head for the forward elevators and avoid the mob scene waiting for the elevators

Very little if and difference in motion on a ship this size. My pick would be starting with 9058/9558 and up. I would even consider the BB on deck 10.

Thank you for your replies, they were all very helpful. It's my first cruise ever, therefore I'm very glad to hearing your advisories!

Are there other opinions?

And, at last: does anybody have a link to other halpful reviews and pictures than on www.cruisecritic.com?

Hi Sonne, I expect you have accessed NCL's Europe site as you are in Switzerland (my DH (husband) lived in Zurich for 2 years and loved it) but if not, here is the link. This is definitely the best set of deck plans for any of the NCL ships as they are in Adobe Acrobat files which can be enlarged so that you can see cabin numbers and clearly see what would be above / below and to the side of your chosen cabin.

We are sailing on the Dawn in just under 3 weeks and are getting SO excited about it. It will also be our first visit to New York which is adding to the excitement.

Thank you, calmac, for your answer. Well, this website I've alredy seen. But as you certainly know, pictures or plans won't alway tell all... So I understand people's own impressions are always the best indicator...

December is a GREAT time to be in NY.

You will enjoy all of the wonderful decorations.

Much to see.

One more tip ~ if you are embarking during the crowded time use forward or aft elevators to your cabin. Mid gets mobbed.

You will love the Dawn.

Eat, at least, one evening in LeBistro.

Have a wonderful cruise.:)

Dear TrinaLC

I live near Aarau, it's located in northern Switzerland. Lausanne lies in the south-west of Switzerland, in the "french" part of our country. Thank you for your compliment on my english :o

Dear Cosmopolitan

Thank you for your tips - we will arrive in NY on the 24th of December - so we hope and expect to see overwehelming, stunning decorations. Here in Switzerland, christmas is being celebrated deifferently - still beautiful, but more private. - Do you live in Manhattan?
