Luggage forward and air tags

We will use Luggage Forward in January from San Diego to Capetown. Can we use Apple AirTags? They are lithium batteries. When I emailed Luggage Forward they said they are not allowed but all airlines accept them now. Has anyone had experience with this?

I used to be a real fan of Luggage Forward.  But they are now so restrictive -- and their customer service has suffered as they have grown -- that I do not use them any more.

We have used Luggage Free and they allow airtags.

 

The FAA officially confirmed to The Points Guy that AirTags are safe and legal to be placed in checked luggage. "Luggage tracking devices powered by lithium metal cells that have 0.3 grams or less of lithium can be used on checked baggage," the FAA said. "Apple AirTags meet this threshold; other luggage tracking devices may not.

Luggage Forward does not allow Air Tags.

You should read the contract of any company you use (before you sign) to know what you can and cannot pack in the luggage.
