Ironing boards

It’s quite some years since we have travelled with P&O and we remember suites used to have an iron and ironing board, do  have Arvia - and Iona too I guess - have such a facility in full suites?

No there are no ironing boards or irons in any cabin due to the fire risk. There are facilities in launderette I believe.

Shame, it used to be so useful having one in the various suites. Apparently not a fire risk then.

No it was a fire risk even then - just that awareness has changed.

As mentioned there are irons in the launderettes, but I am wary of ironing any particularly good items as staining can occur from the irons which tend to get filled with tap water.  So worth asking around of others who have used specific irons previously imo.

Never had any problems with the irons staining anything, in fact the purity of the desalinated water is much higher than anything you will find coming out of a tap at home.

Just on Arvia now and there is an iron and board in the launderette.

It’s hard wired into the wall and there is a button to press to turn it on and it’s on a timer. It’s quite a lightweight, basic steam iron. 
I would take an old tea towel or some kind of cloth to iron through as this one had a dirty soleplate which left a mark on my dress and it also kept leaking water 😩

Well one of the irons on Aurora last month was definitely leaving marks on clothes for some reason.  I saw the marks and the base of the iron looked clean after the person concerned had used it.  I cannot say if those marks washed off as I did not use that iron, having been warned about it by the person who had just used it.   Someone else had used the same iron later in the cruise and reported the same.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds as though it may be safer to send those things that absolutely must be pressed to the laundry.

I would just be very careful, take on of those special mesh ironing cloths that you can buy which protect clothes, maybe from Lakeland or John Lewis, or else a thin old tea towel and iron on the reverse and test the iron first.

In my experience, the irons tend to leak when the power goes off, and as they are on a timer, that's a fair few times if you've got a lot to iron.  You tend not to notice the timer has finished until you see the water on your garment.  A 'ping' would be a bonus.
