Is Sunshine always so dirty?

Sunshine isn't going in for a dry dock until 2025 according to goccl, Carnival's travel agent info website. This is just after her stint at Charleston and just before she begins homeport operations in Norfolk. It's a rather long dry dock as well, hopefully she'll be getting some MUCH needed TLC.

Booked for March 2025, happy to see this info!

I sailed out of Norfolk on the Magic last month and really enjoyed the city as a home port - hope to sail out of there again at some point.

Are you sailing on the Sunshine next week, or another Carnival ship?

Yikes, the college crowd.  Looking forward to a report when you return.

Sailing on Sunshine. This week. Depart Thursday. We usually do the 5 nighters but this is a 4 night. Several colleges here in the Carolinas have fall break, no school Thursday and Friday. We are admittedly taking one with us!  We will see if there are lots more.

Someone put it well, I think. Worn, but not dirty. At least that has been my experience the two times I have been on her this past year. We are also 2 for 2 getting Covid on both sailings. Hoping for a different outcome this time.

I will report back, at least on the menu!

Carnival is not known for the maintenance of their ships. Rather they're known for how rusty and worn they often appear in port, alongside ships from other lines.

Show proof of this statement... even a little proof... even a tiny bit of proof.

Pretty big statements to make.

We've done 17 carnival cruises, 4 on the sunshine. She is our favorite. We've tried the mega ships and prefer the smaller. less people, shorter lines, better attention from staff.

We've never known Sunshine to be dirty, but the windows are going to get dirty from salt spray. Things do rust, but we constantly see staff grinding and painting on every ship.

We love the Serenity deck on the Sunshine. It's unique and has lots of space for adults only.

We love Guys burgers and Blue Iguana tacos and burritos. Also we enjoy the Pizza Pirate and the deli. Some of the buffet foods are not to our liking, but we always find plenty we do like.

No cruise is perfect, but if you go in with a positive attitude you will enjoy it so much more.

Happy cruising!

A score of 85 or lower is not passing.........................

The latest inspection score is bit disturbing, especially reading about the food prep areas, bugs, etc.  Now worried!

cruizinisthebest - Your message is reassuring.  When were you last onboard?

Could you point to where you have seen this?  I cannot find anything. All I see is the following:

Drydock: Carnival Sunshine – January 4, 2025 – February 15, 2025

That makes sense, as the last time Sunshine will dock in Charleston is first few days January, 2025. The plans for renovating the terminal ended after long challenges from environmental and historical conservation groups; the port will still allow for 1 day docks of ships, but that's about it. And for how long, who knows.  I'm sure by 2026 there will be more condo developments on that property, just like the city is allowing directly across the street from the port. (Source, me, a Charleston resident).

Since this got bumped back up, I thought I would report back from our Oct 19 sailing. I didn’t find it dirty at all. There were people cleaning all the time. I even saw one lady wiping the walls on promenade between the casino and the coffee place. Wiping the walls!  The casino was especially clean, with people cleaning the machines constantly. Ocean plaza, red frog, all clean. Even the public restrooms were clean and sometimes they seem to struggle on ships. It also seemed like the hallway on our deck 6 was constantly being vacuumed. Every time I went to the room, someone was vacuuming somewhere. I am not sure what more they can do.

We were on Sunshine in September. I did not notice any cleanliness issues, I did love the Serinity area- Plenty of comfortable, shaded seating. We spent a good deal of our time there.
