JinxyB Posted October 25, 2023 #1 Share Posted October 25, 2023 I was browsing potential cruises to perhaps sail over NYE. Carnival would be my last choice, but I can drive to Charleston and the days fit my schedule around the holidays. I realize that holiday cruises are $$$, but Carnival is charging $3K for an inside cabin for a 5-day sailing! This is completely insane to me (it’s on an older ship, too). I guess they can charge this, because people are booking it. I guess my point is I obviously won’t be booking it, but I wonder how much longer the cruise industry can charge these outrageous prices? The Covid travel bubble has to burst at sone point
csm5986142 Posted October 25, 2023 #2 Share Posted October 25, 2023 I noticed this too. A long time ago we booked Jubilee for this NYE, and at that time the price was pretty reasonable. Now, almost 2 years later, we tried to add one more person to our booking and were told they would have to recalculate the entire cruise fare, which ended up being an additional $3,591. It seems prices have really jumped the last year or so.
staceyglow Posted October 25, 2023 #3 Share Posted October 25, 2023 It can keep charging those outrageous prices as long as people are willing to pay them.
john91498 Posted October 25, 2023 #4 Share Posted October 25, 2023 We have 2 cruises on Royal and a land vacation to the Bahamas next year. Sadly, next year will be the first time in over 20 years we're not doing at least 1 Carnival cruise.

Agreed, it just won’t be me! Have you seen what Royal is charging for the Icon? Pure insanity. I’m switching over to less cruises and more AI resorts/land trips

The Covid travel bubble has to burst at sone point Holiday sailings are crazy expensive. I cruise either late April or Mid-November, both are very much off season, and the rates show it. Otherwise you can do like my friend Bob and spend enough in the casino they'll give you a free room whenever you want. 😆
Frank12 Posted October 25, 2023 #7 Share Posted October 25, 2023 Even the off-season rates are way up.
WhiteOptima Posted October 25, 2023 #8 Share Posted October 25, 2023 There is also something about Charleston and Sunshine. Friends wanted me to do a 5 day in November and as a single it was going to be $1100 with nothing. My DH and I are doing 11 day on Venezia for the same price.

Yes- I’m sure it’s because it’s the only ship there and they can charge a premium. But 3K for an old ship in an inside room is bonkers
maluhia87 Posted October 25, 2023 #10 Share Posted October 25, 2023 NYE are inflated prices to begin with, and Charleston is generally more. That price is probably since it is a very popular sailing time and two months out. We have a NYE booked over 1.5 years ago during the 50% off sale. Rare Jamman54 Posted October 25, 2023 #11 Share Posted October 25, 2023 I find that you need to book NYE cruises as soon as they are opened for booking. That's when the prices are the lowest. The prices continue to rise as the amount of cabins available to book goes down. The same for other popular times as well.
