mdj59 Posted November 12, 2023 #1 Share Posted November 12, 2023 We are looking at a 15-day RT cruise to Hawaii from LA. We’re mostly concerned about weather and sea conditions. While we understand that weather and conditions are always guesswork at best, we would appreciate any insights and opinions regarding us choosing between mid-March or mid-October. Mahalo! CruiserBruce Posted November 12, 2023 #2 Share Posted November 12, 2023 Mid October will generally probably be a little better weather on the West Coast. Not a lot of difference in the Hawaii weather. Can be a bit more humid in Hawaii. There is no "low" season in Hawaii, but October will be a bit less crowded.
Marian160 Posted November 12, 2023 #3 Share Posted November 12, 2023 I would choose mid-October. More chance of being outdoors on the ship, using pool, etc. One never knows with our changing weather patterns but it's winter in Hawaii too in Feb/Mar so would be cooler.

Only by 2-3 degrees on average and still firmly with highs in the 80s-- I wouldn't make this decision based on Hawaii's weather which is pretty consistent year round. One thing to consider for the Mid March trip is that would put you in whale watching season where Mid October would be a bit early to see much.
KeepCalmBearOn Posted November 14, 2023 #5 Share Posted November 14, 2023 We've done both and the only thing that would make me reconsider October, WOULD HAVE been whale season. The last time we anchored in Lahaina Roads in March there were so many whales around, the Princess crew had to use brooms to swat them away from trying to come onboard. But it will be a long time before cruises use the dock in Lahaina again. Make sure your ship is calling on Maui. Our next cruise RT from LA we are overnighting in HNL and skipping Maui altogether.
