Cruise cash Question?

Hello Cruisers,

Been on cruise critic since my very first cruise Carnival Liberty.

We have an up coming Cruise in April of 2024.

At first it was just for the Two of us.

DW and I book a suite back in January 2023.   An 8 days cruise Western Caribbean.

Beginning of October of this year Mother In-law wanted to Tag along.

Words got out, Mother In-law good Friend wanted to join.

So we booked them a Balcony cabin one floor up and on cabin back from our Suite.

Now the Question,  Friend does not drink and does not what the cheers package.

I had to find a solution for the Mother in-law. (Knowing her after 30+ Years)

After researching and calculating on the amount of glasses she will actually drink.

She will be doing around 80,00$ per day base on the drink cost at the time of this post.

Might be more expensive in 2024.

In-Law's Friend would like to play at the Casino on Sea days.

I was Looking at

Carnival General Cruise Cash.

General Cruise Cash provides an immediate credit to a guest's Sail & Sign account.  This credit is good for any charge made to their account including taxes and gratuity charges.  Cruise Cash is valid for a single voyage and cannot be transferred to future bookings.  Cruise Cash is non-refundable and any unused credits will be forfeited

*Cruise Cash purchases limited to $500 per cabin.

Carnival Bar Cruise Cash.

Cruise Cash Bar provides an immediate credit to a guest's Sail & Sign account which can be applied toward any bar purchases.  This credit is good for any bar charge made to their account including alcoholic drinks, juice, soda, water, and coffee shop charges.  Cruise Cash Bar is valid for a single voyage and cannot be transferred to future bookings.  Cruise Cash Bar is non-refundable and any unused credits will be forfeited.

*Cruise Cash Bar purchases limited to $500 per cabin.

We would like to get In-Law a Bar Cruise cash to cover her drinks.

Rather than paying as she goes along. Im also thinking of the daily exchange rates. (We are from Canada)

I would tell her friend about the cash a General Cruise cash for the casino.

Or she can bring a wad of cash or Both?

I see it says it will be applied to guest's Sail and Sign account. But limited to 500$ per Cabin.

I'm seeing this as two different offers GENERAL and BAR.

So Bar cash for In-Law and General for Friend. Would that be a possible Solution.

I'd would like to know the Cruise Critic Opinion

If We get the BAR and the GENERAL cruise cash

I have done both in the past.  You should be able to purchase both for a total of $1,000 per cabin.  It will ask you which passenger to credit for each purchase.  The only issue at all is that if the entire $500 is not used, it will not be refunded.  I've never had an issue with Cruise Cash, because like you MIL's friend, I spend quite a bit of time in the casino.  I purchased the $500 bar credit for my sister a few years ago, and though she drinks, she had not used it by the night before cruise ended (she got free drinks in the casino).  She was able to use it for extra tip so she found her favorite bar waitress in the casino, ordered a drink and left her a tip of like $50 or so and it did come out of the Bar Credit.

I just bought bar cash and cruise cash with the egift card (10% savings) based on the amount we usually spend, wife can't drink so we don't get the cheers.

Paid for the tips as well with an egift card to save a few more dollars.

Just advising as an option for those trying to save a few bucks.

Just set up separate sail and sign accounts and have each attach a credit card! Unless they are buying this cruise type cash with a discount it isn't worth the hassle imho. The gambler should bring cash to avoid fees for credit card use in the casino though.

Just tell them to bring cash or credit card.  There is no need in buying Carnival monopoly money with restrictions before hand.  It was created to be an easy way to give a gift to someone sailing, not fund a cruise.

After reading the replies and discussing the options with MIL.

We will bring 2 maybe 3 bottles of wine for her to enjoy on her Balcony and our suite.

It will last 3 days max.....😉

She will bring US cash to Get some "Carnival Monopoly money"  for her sail and sign account.

I showed her the room Service list of bottles she say will pay for a bottle of “Mousse”.

As long as she’s happy, I’m fine with that.

Her friend The “Gambler”  🤑 will do the same by bringing some US cash and go to the Casino to have it applied to Sail and Sign card.

The Gambler is pretty insistant that she will not be buy and kind of drinks. 😅

So I got her a little gift for her room, 12 pack of bottled water.  😇

Thank you Cruisers for your advices.

If you have funds left over from cruise cash (its not an issue) just go to guest services or cashier cage in the casino on the last night of cruise and cash out your S & S account.  They will give you anything left at that point.  Do it right before you go back to your cabin for night ( account will be closed) but you are leaving the next morning anyway.

Actually they should buy chips directly with cash to  avoid the 3 percent fee for charging chips to room account. There is no fee to use sail and sign cards at the slots though.
