Hello, planning a cruise; I have a choice of different French ports. Cannes, Nice, and Marseille. We will be on Celebrity. The cruises we like, are all the same but the French ports. Which French port should we pick.

Cannes and Nice are very near each other.  Marseille is further west. So your choice is Nice/Cannes or Marseille.

Either choice has a lot to offer based on personal preference. You really need to look in a guide book for the Riviera and Provence and see what appeals to you.  There are no wrong choices.

If you have a preference for  docking rather than tendering, Cannes is always a tender port.  Nice can be either docking for smaller ships, or tendering from nearby Villefranche for larger ships.

And as already mentioned, you need to consider what your plans will be for the day, so reading as much as you can about the area will help you decide which of the ports would be the best fit for whatever you decide to do.

Lots of info can be found online, many past threads with info and suggestions can be found and read here on CC, and even if you don't want to book one, do look at the shorex on offer as they too will give you some ideas.

My apologies.  I only later realised that I forgot to mention Marseille which is another of your options.  Always docking at the Port of Fos, some distance from the city.

Reading this very recent thread will give you an indication of the different options you might have to travel between the port and  the city.

  • 1 month later...

We tendered at Villefranche and from there we took a private excursion to the little village of Eze, nice little hilltop village, with cobblestone streets and roman ruins in addition to great views over the Mediterranean sea! From there they also took us to Montecarlo, luxury town known for F1 races and its casino. We highly recommend a private limo company called "Riviera Come True" with Sasha as our driver!
