Can anyone recommend a good eco friendly Whale watching tour?   Is the cruise port close to the marina where the whale watching boats leave from?

There is a difference between the cruise port and the Marina. It is walkable, but a cab would be easier and better. However if you book a ship tour whale watch you will be picked up at the cruiseport.

Also if you book a private tour from the Marina double check not only the departure point and also the departure time. Sometimes ship time is different then local time.

Some of the nicest whalewatch tours are e.g. https://oceanfriendly.com/ and: https://www.ecotoursvallarta.com/

Do you know what company Princess Cruise line uses?  It may be easier just to go with them and not deal with a taxi to find  whale company

Most cruise lines use Vallarta Adventures, a wellknown company. . However due to the contract with the lines they will NOT accept direct bookings from cruise passengers. So book through your cruiseline.
