Rare CruisingAndDiving Posted December 26, 2023 #1 Share Posted December 26, 2023 Hi everyone. Recently back from our Rotterdam cruise and stayed in aft cabin 8203. I've sent pictures off to HalFacts but also wanted to post here for anyone interested. Happy to answer any question about the stateroom. The treat us aft cabins generally have bigger balconies. With the overhang of the Seaview pool deck above...lots of privacy as no on can look down onto the balcony. 3

The one question I have: when the ship is underway, is the noise of the engines and the wake a problem? While walking the promenade I notice both the noise and the steady vibration. While walking the promenade I notice both the noise and the steady vibration. I have not found either to be an issue. Occasionally, we notice a random loud knock or similar noise. They're very infrequent and short-lived; some cruises we don't have them at all.
Rare CruisingAndDiving Posted December 27, 2023 Author #10 Share Posted December 27, 2023 Agree with @Haljo1935. As we were on deck 8 we could hear occasional chair movement early in the morning from the Seaview pool, but other than that no issue with wake or engine noise

Loved it, would surely do it again. Barb
maggiev Posted January 19 #17 Share Posted January 19 I was always under the impression cabins on higher decks were more than the lower decks. Now I’m seeing on the NA in August an Aft cabin on deck 4 is more than one on deck 7. Can anyone explain this? Thank you

Not looking at the deck plan to confirm, but usually 4 has the BIG decks.

Are you sure that you are not comparing a SB corner Neptune with a VB? Or do you mean that you have already bought an aft VB and now the price is higher for an aft VB on another deck?? kimkencruzers Posted January 19 #20 Share Posted January 19 Random question: is there a way to hear the announcements out on the balcony or in the cabin? Seems like a great place to watch the fjords and awesome views but I couldn’t see a way on my last cruise to hear the announcements and I’m assuming they will have some naturalists on board in Norway/iceland? The announcements/scenic narration can be heard usually on the TV Bow Cam channel. They can't be heard on the cabin veranda though. ~Nancy 2

Yes they are both VB, Deck 4 is about $350 more than on Deck 7. I was just always under the impression lower decks were lower prices. @Haldo1935 thinks the lower aft cabins have a larger balcony. Sounds like I need to do some research & possibly change cabins

Sounds like I need to do some research & possibly change cabins After looking at the deck plan, Rotterdam deck 4 does have the larger balconies if you're side aft (not true wake aft), since you say they're VB, I believe you must be on the side so that would increase the price over higher decks. If you're true aft, Rotterdam does not have the deep balconies on 4. Which ship are you looking at? On Oosterdam, deck 5 is the one w/the deep balconies true aft (very noticeable compared to 6)
maggiev Posted January 21 #24 Share Posted January 21 We are on Nieuw Amsterdam in aft 7143. Looked yesterday because some friends now want to join us & noticed that to aft cabins on deck 4 are at a higher cost than on deck 7. I was always under the impression the higher decks were more in demand & cost more. I was surprised deck 4, being so low, was more than deck
Real NHDOC Posted January 22 #25 Share Posted January 22 I’ve seen complaints from random posts about smelling smoke on those rear facing verandas. Either cigarette smoke from the seaview bar on deck 9 or exhaust smoke that gets drawn back against the back of the ship. Some have even said that you sometimes get soot on the veranda and furniture from the ship exhaust. Has anyone here experienced any issues like that?
