Independent transportation?

Recommended Posts

Hello!

We will FINALLY be visiting the island and are excited to find an amazing beach to relax at (2 adults, 3 tweens). I am not interested in a tour or group excursion but would rather just find our own transportation to a beach (and back).

What beach would you recommend for relaxing/snorkeling that we can taxi to/from easily without spending a ton of time driving? Also, where at port is the easiest place to find taxis? While beach chairs/umbrellas are a perk we'd be willing to spend money on, food/drink are not a requirement. Kids have been spoiled with too much time on Aruba and Curacao beaches and love finding gorgeous beaches on new islands.

Thanks!

Taxis are right at port.  One thing tweens might like is going to Maho and watching planes land.

Mullet Beach is a great beach that mostly attracts locals.  Dawn Beach has great snorkeling. Orient Beach is nice but can get crowded.

Best recommendations

COCO on Orient Beach (the have a kid’s menu), gentle waves for swimming.

Or slightly better for younger ones, consider the short ferry ride from Orient Beach to Pinel Island for a swim/snorkel in the protected Marine Park.

Make a one’s “base” on Pinel at either Karibuni or Yellow Beach on Pinel

Good Snorkelling along a designated, also safe, reef area for gentle waves snorkelling, ideal for little ones to swim or snorkel with adults.  For any adults being a much stronger swimmers then head for bigger rocks/waves with more fish round the headland to the north.

As all three beach stays are popular with residents, stayers and cruisers, therefore space is limited.  Best to book well in advance.

enjoy….
