Anyone Used Whatsapp in Buenos Aires?

We will be in Buenos Aires in February.  We booked a transfer service with a company that uses Whatsapp to communicate with us.  We are using them 4 times. Does anyone have any experience with Whatsapp?  The price quoted is 15 USD with 2 GB, unlimited Whatsapp for one month.

Yes.  WhatsApp works just fine.

Always use it in foreign countries.  Travel people like to use it.  

Did is specifically in South America (Chile, Argentina) - no problems.

 

Not sure what you are referring to for a price quote and GB.  Who is quoting you and for what service?

 

The WhatsApp app is free - you just pay for your phone or nothing if you use wifi.

Sorry, forgot to say the 15 US$ is for the SIM card with 2 GB.  Is wifi readily available in Buenos Aires?

Wifi was available in our hotel, as well as various restaurants and cafes.

We also do the $10 Verizon Intl plan that only charges the $10 for the days you use it.

We use WhatsApp often when traveling (even used it this morning to communicate with a tour guide/driver in Zanzibar). In many countries, its the preferred method of communication. WhatsApp is free, and we use it in conjunction with our US cell phones and our international service.

I agree. We have been in Chile & Argentina for a week now. All of our tour guides, and hotels have been contacting us on WhatsApp. This is also the case in Europe (lived there 2018 - 2020) and Tanzania. When traveling internationally, WhatsApp is much more useful than text messaging.

We are newly retired and are traveling as much as possible. If you are planning to travel internationally, I strongly recommend getting a newer phone that can use esims (iPhone 14 or newer, newer Samsung or Pixels). An esim allows you to get a data package for your phone for most anywhere in the world. Airalo is my current favorite esim provider, but there are 100s of companies selling these. We are in Chile right now. An Airalo esim for Chile is $11 for 7GB of data. That is really cheap.

 

The great thing about esims is they are a digital product. You buy them over the Internet and install them on your phone, like a software license key. This is way easier than the old way of buying a sim chip at the airport on arrival.
