sun&sea Posted January 19 #1 Share Posted January 19 I purchased an adapter with the intention of using the outlet under the bed for a travel fan. It just dawned on me that the fan would have to be dual powered. Is that true? I have previously just used an extension cord from the desk. Perhaps that makes more sense? janet
Outerdog Posted January 19 #2 Share Posted January 19 Most power adapters are not UL listed and are of varying quality. The safest option is the extension cord from the desk. Signed, Fellow Must-Have-Travel-Fan Person
JF - retired RRT Posted January 19 #3 Share Posted January 19 A fan wouldn't necessarily have dual voltage. Check the label on the fan or the box that it came in.
avonlady6390 Posted January 19 #4 Share Posted January 19 I bring a battery operated fan and back up batteries no pluging in or having to charge the battery. You can find them on Amazon.
Rare Rick&Jeannie Posted January 19 #5 Share Posted January 19 I don't think that I have ever seen a fan or any motor-driven device that was dual voltage. That is almost exclusively a function of purely *electronic* devices that use sensing circuits to adjust for the needed voltage.

CPAP devices use motors...most are dual voltage but the majority use power "bricks" that do the voltage adjustments.

sun&sea Posted January 19 Author #8 Share Posted January 19 Thank you everyone! The thought about the voltage came after I purchased the adapter!! I will bring the cord like I have always done in the past. Or perhaps a battery operated fan. Thanks again! Janet
marden1970 Posted January 19 #9 Share Posted January 19 I bring a small fan that says Li-ion battery fan that has a usb cord as well, I plug the usb end into a plug that can plug into the wall socket. Sorry, I don't know what that's called but it works fine. Always need my fan. The fan brand is OPOLAR and I bought it on Amazon a few years ago.
