Use of Onboard Credit Pre-Cruise

Can onboard credit be used to purchase excursions and specialty dining reservations prior to the cruise or just used once onboard ship for the cruise?

Excursions yes. Restaurants no

Just the term OnBoard Credit would imply that it must be used totally onboard. As the name implies. However, just to keep us from assuming too much, someone at Princess decided that OBC can be used for excursions prior to boarding. But nothing else.

OBC is usable for booking excursions in advance. Otherwise it is only usable onboard.

I'm certainly glad that we *can* use OBC for excursions...but with an acronym like that it can lead to confusion with new Princess cruisers.  But then, Princess has a *real* problem with naming things! 😄
