Mega Rock Star Thermal Suite question

Hi.  This will be our first Virgin voyage.  We are interested in a Mega Rock Star Suite.  It says that the Thermal Suite is included for Mega Rock Star Suites.  Can we use it anytime of the day?  Do we have to make reservations to go there?  Is there a time limit for how long we can stay at the Thermal Suite for Mega Rock Star Cabins?

The thermal suite books in 3-4 hour blocks.  The 4 hour blocks cross into dinner times.  You do make a reservation thru your host so they can effectively limit the number of people in the area at once but you can make as many reservations as you wish.  I've never heard of a mega being denied a time slot, but they will know you are planning to be there and will control the number of others.  You can book more than one block if you wish.

Read reviews of the thermal suite.  I don't want to influence you with my opinion without providing many others as well.

We really enjoyed it.  Our agent booked our time and escorted us there.  After about an hour, we had made friends and wanted some champagne.  We messaged our agent, and he brought us a couple of bottles and glasses to use in the pools.  It was such a perfect day that we did it again two days later.

As of Dec 2023 in a Mega, I was told to just go whenever I wanted, no time slot or anything needed. 

It might not have been a completely full sailing, not sure. But I definitely didn't have to pre-book a slot, and my rock star agent told me so ahead of time. 

In the past I had needed to check in/select a time.

The Virgin Thermal Suites are in no comparison to those found on NCL. Two things stand out. First is the Co-ed changing rooms. Once you past the reception desk you'll come to a hallway with individual changing rooms on one side (similar to try-on rooms in clothing stores) and the other side has individual shower stalls. Past those and you'll find a locker section for you personal items and clothes. I don't understand for the life of me why they didn't REVERSE the placement of these things and have you walk directly into a locker area. Anyway I thought I wouldn't like this unusual arrangement but it in practice it was OK. It definitely saves alot of space instead of two single sex changing/shower rooms. 

 

The second major change from all other thermal suites is the absence of individual heated tile loungers and in its place are slabs of heated stone platforms. So instead of lying down on your own heated lounger you have to find a space to lay totally horizontally flat on a heated stone surface. I think it's a terrible idea. It's not comfortable and you're at the mercy of where and how others are laying down. The Thermal suite is beautiful to look at, but not particularly practical in use.

We were in a Mega Rock Star suite in a few weeks ago on the Valiant Lady.  You can go to the thermal suites anytime they are open (I thing their hours were 6am - midnight).  But I recommend that you lower your expectations.  I am a big spa going person and been in various thermal suites on different cruise lines.  With our Virgin cruise, I only went once.  It was such a disappointment that I didn't bother going again.  No heated tile loungers and the steam and sauna rooms were just OK.

You should be able to go anytime they’re open. Check with your particular host. My wife and I are very critical of spas and had low expectations going in but it turned out to be one of our favorite things on the cruise.
