Getting to Manhattan Cruise Terminal on May 5, day of 5 Boro Bike Tour

We are booked in the Omni Berkshire on E 52nd Street the night of the 4th and just found out today there is a huge bike tour the day of the 5th which will shut down many streets from 7:30 am until well past the time the ship will sail.  If the streets are shut down to cars, will we be able to walk to the port and cross those streets? I really don't want to rebook to a different hotel if we don't have to since the Omni offers a very nice military discount.  This is our first time leaving from this port and only our third time in the city overall so I really don't know how to plan for this.

The bike tour operates in waves that start from different locations in downtown Manhattan not near the cruise port or your hotel. The travel north/uptown on 6th Ave in Manhattan to Central Park and 6th Ave a.k.a. Avenue of the Americas will be closed to vehicle traffic for its length as well as 59th Street or Central Park South is closed.

From your hotel, an Uber or Cab could go uptown/north to the first Central Park Transverse Road at 65th Street to cross to the Westside of Manhattan and then downtown/south to the Port. Yes you will need some extra time as people will not know that 6th Ave is closed but you will still be able to get to the ship.

You can walk across the bike tour route, but its a pain, you'll definitely have to scurry across 6th Ave. Even if you get across it might be hard getting a cab, the bike tour really snarls up traffic that day. If taking a cab from your hotel you'll have to go uptown to go cross town and the Central Park transverse roads will be slammed with vehicular traffic. They are single lane roads in each direction. If you're not in a rush to get to the port note from the Bike Tour website:

"After a Start wave is released, the line moves up. Please refer to access points for earlier waves. Sixth Ave will reopen to cars at 12:00 PM."
