Combining drink package types…

The full drink package is worth considering even if not drinking alcohol. The alchemy bar can whip up a great concoction with non-alcoholic spirits. The milkshakes and coffee are nice, and you can get an energy drink or virgin frozen drink any time.

Honestly, when not drinking alcohol you can consume a lot more... not just because there is no 15-drink limit, but mostly because your body won't stop working, :LOL!

Not to say this would tip the scales on the decision but the package also includes water which I find I drink several of each day and I collect extras to bring with me off ship for excursions etc...."most" bartenders will give you a water bottle in conjunction with a cocktail bypassing the "only one drink at a time" rule.

Cheers is really an alcohol package. It is really tough to make the math work for non-drinkers or light drinkers.

An alcohol package for mixed drink folks.... Unless you can go through 10 pints of craft beer a day.

Yeah I agree, the math is the easiest if you're an Alchemy or at least a mixed drink drinker. You'd have to be a heavy beer drinker to make it worthwhile on beer alone.

My husband doesn’t drink alcohol, but I do. Can I purchase the “alcohol” drink package and purchase him some other option? It’s really unfortunate when you have to purchase two alcohol packages because you’re in the same cabin but don’t necessarily drink the same way.

Any suggestions?

Thanks so much!

Nope, Cheers includes everything which is why you must purchase it for everyone in the cabin that is of age.

Yes, even the coffee shop will give you a bottle of water along with whatever beverage you are purchasing under the package.

Only extra water though, they won't let you have both a coffee and an energy drink for free at the same visit.

No exceptions* whatsoever, no matter what documentation you have and even if someone is pregnant, in recovery, or allergic to alcohol.  (Just about every situation has been asked about on here over time.)

* The only exception is that when one person has Drinks on Us Everywhere from the casino, the other person can buy Cheers because DOU Everywhere is essentially the same as Cheers.

Your mileage may vary on that. My fiancé and I cruised on the Celebration in December. She was about 10 weeks pregnant at the time. We had already purchased the cheers package a few months prior. The evening of the 1st day of cruising she went to guest services and produced her proof of pregnancy from the OB, and asked if she could be refunded for her cheers package. The representative said she would send the request to customer service in Miami. She ordered a Starry the next day, and was charged for it. About 2 weeks later we received the refund for her cheers package.

That's the first time I'm aware of anyone on here reporting successfully getting a waiver to buy Cheers if the other person has it.  Until now anyone who was pregnant and tried to get a waiver was told they had to buy Cheers and Carnival wouldn't serve them alcohol (seems obvious but there was a thread about a pregnant alcoholic whose OB said stopping drinking was a bigger danger than the effect of alcohol on the baby), but Cheers wasn't of no use to them due to the nonalcoholic drinks it includes.

While certainly not the rule, I have seen it done successfully.  The latest was due to a medical condition of one party and honored (on a recent group we led and sailed with).  These are one offs, I would be surprised if they started blanket exceptions, it would be abused horrifically if they did.

How many couples would have a Mormon wife and a fish for a husband if they allowed blanket exceptions?

Agreed 💯. On Carnival you would see so many more drink transfers from one person to another. Person with Cheers goes to the bar, brings back a White Claw for "non-drinking" spouse.

I would agree it is not the best plan for those of us that truly have a companion that does not drink much and would actually follow the plan rules and not share with others. However, knowing the customer base, I can see 💯why Carnival has to set the policy the way they do.

What about the Soda package.  Does the whole room have to pay, or just those who want it?

Soda packages are just per individual, does not need to be everyone in the room.
