Check in time for Sky in La Romana

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

We are boarding the Sky on April 10th.

We will be staying in Punta Cana for 3 days before the cruise

I'm wondering if anyone who has recently sailed from La Romana can tell me what time check- in started...we sail at 8:30 pm as well.

Just looking to book a transfer from our hotel in Punta Cana to the LA Romana cruise port so wanted to know a time frame.

Thank you

@kenmyfam

We’re getting off Sky tomorrow

we picked a 1230 embarkation time, didn't matter.
our transportation was early picking us up and drive from Punta Cana faster than google maps indicated. We arrived at La Romana terminal at 11 and processed right through. Whole process was less than an hour, including looking around port area - kinda like mini resort with free pool and loungers, restaurants and bars

fill out your DR paperwork in advance and if you stayed in DR more than 24 hours before embarking you will have to pay $20pp in the port. Cash line is non existent but they do take credit

@kenmyfam

When you rsgister online 21 days before the cruise they will give you a check in time.

Actually when you do the on-line check you choose the time you want to arrive at the port.   The earlier you do the online check in the earlier the arrival time is available.

Boarding does NOT usually start at the earliest check-in time, usually it starts anywhere between 11am and Noon, it depends on when the ship has been cleared by the local authorities.

Unless you have some form of priority there will a number of groups who board before "the general public".

How’s your cruise experience on the Sky? Is the food and service quality getting worse like many have reported on this board? I’ll taking similar itinerary next week on shorter 12-day cruise.

ColdCruise……..that’s an amazing itinerary you’ve had, unless NCL changed it, like ours on Sky 20 April ??

Did you get off or do an excursion on Catalina island? Reading very mixed reports about it. Don’t wanna do a ship trip and not feeling the hassle of the tender for half a day, we have plenty of beautiful beaches to come.

Also, about La Romana mini resort. Do you think you could use it for a few hours on disembarkation day. Obviously off ship early and our flight doesn’t leave till 6.30 pm. Looking for day pass but only coming up with stupid money atm. Just really after a bar, pool and shower, maybe somewhere to store luggage. Don’t want to do ship excursion, way too expensive.

Our 3rd time on Sky, she gets the best itineraries, till they change em😡. We are hoping that the food and service WON’T be as good as last year….we put on 11lbs in 9 days😂. Love the ship plus our fav band Sonata is on board🤞

ColdCruise….any thoughts appreciated

Disembarkation breakfast - no shortage of bacon ! I did not request extra, this just came

overall food quality, quantity has been. Quality of the regular steak in MDR has been exceptional… better than my last ribeye on Viva Cagney’s in Nov. MDR maitre d’ said they changed suppliers & are getting black angus now.

typical misses in food department mostly IMO due to interpretation of dish by either NCl recipe or cooks’ cultural unfamiliarity with the dish.

very strange- long ridiculous lines for both MDRs even if you had a reservation (highly suggest making those if you prefer to eat between opening &7). The dragons doing seating even tried giving us a pager when we had a reservation… after giving the walk-in ahead of us a table for 2. Spoke with asst maitre d’ and next time we ate mdr… no lines. In fact there were no lines the rest if the cruise (scratching my head over that - did they po people and every one just stopped eating mdr and went buffet?)

buffet was pretty repetitive when we did use it

big disappointment- The Local  was only open fir dinner with very abbreviated menu

service has been top notch - excellent in restaurants and bars. Head wine steward saud we were drinking wine more than usual 🤪

Don't get your luggage until you clear the immigration/customs snake line. You exit right past the luggage holding area. Pita maneuvering bags through switchbacks. Priority/suites line took 30 minutes

Looks like another 11lb er trip again, with breakfasts like that and black Angus steaks.

Thats one thing I don’t like about Sky, the canteen style lay out, rather than islands like on other ships, just causes queues. Given the choice we’d skip out back to Great outdoors, less manic out there, especially for breakfast.

Good to know things aren’t going downhill, glad you had good time.

Did you go to Catalina island?
