MamaJenncruiser Posted March 10 #1 Share Posted March 10 Is there a cheap way to message each other while travelling so we can meet up for dinner, etc? On RCL they had an app where it was only for RCL purposes and for the travelers to conenct with each other. It was cheap or free (can't remember). I don't want to buy a wifi package just to communicate. Am considering going with a large family group and with a big ship we need a way to connect. Rare nydney1 Posted March 10 #2 Share Posted March 10 You can use the Carnival app onboard. It’s $5 a person for messaging
Homosassa Posted March 10 #3 Share Posted March 10 No need to carry cell phones around and trying to message each other. All the following worked well for years before cell phones (and still are effective): The cabins have telephones where one can call another cabin and leave a message. There is also the tried and true method of a note placed on the cabin door or placed under the door. There is also meeting up at a set time and location to talk and make plans (or the random encounters around the ship also work).

And the $5 per person is per cruise so it's pretty inexpensive. Edited March 10 by Knights on the Beach
Indiansbaseball Posted March 10 #5 Share Posted March 10 I like using the messaging. It’s handy when we go our separate ways for lunch or breakfast…and when one gets a table, we can let each other know where we are sitting. Worth the 5$ each. It definitely works much better than when they first came out with it. Used to be very hit or miss, but lately it has been pretty reliable.

Not a guarantee iMessage will work without an internet plan, it's it or miss at best. Our last 5 cruises were on all 3 Excel class ships. While the internet access worked very well, iMessage did not unless using the purchased internet plan. Other ships we've sailed iMessage with an internet plan was spotty at best.
