What time is disembarkation in Southampton?

You are unlucky. We are still getting two and hour from Bournemouth to Waterloo, so there are probably more from Southampton. They rarely have engineering works on the main line in the holiday season, so between about now and October. That leaves landslides to worry about.

When they close the line between Cannes, Nice and Monaco, they don't bother with replacement buses.

As that usually includes Sundays or Holidays when buses are only every 30 minutes, virtually all the buses leave Cannes or Nice full and hardly pick up anyone in between. We've learned the hard way that It's best to stay local when it happens.

Hmmm.. I've never tried that. Would be interesting, but I wouldn't fancy trying to get a refund if they accepted the ticket sale.

I travel to Exeter from Salisbury and Sunday is every  2 hours with frequent bus replacements. Rarely go to London but the Exeter train originates there so I guess the frequency is similar. No trains before 9 30 on a Sunday ever at my destination.

Oh my, Winifred22--that sounds so discombobulated.  I'm definitely feeling happier about shoving money in Cunard's coffers for transferring this July.  But I've taken note of everyone else's advice for what I am already anticipating will be the next time.

Yes, the Exeter line has been sadly degraded over the years, with much single track past Salisbury. Gone are the days when, as a child, I travelled to Woolacombe on the fabled ACE. Luckily (for us) the Southampton line is rather better.

I feel like a total idiot, but I just read a thread about the perils of disembarking in Brooklyn--and it reminded that I'd never even given a second's thought to the fact that we'll need to clear immigration in Southampton!  How does that factor into the Cunard transfer?  (We're American, so I'm assuming it'll be slower)

On our TAs, immigration was carried out by UK border forces,  on the ship coming over. Very civilised.

I believe it is often allocated to those approaching retirement, as a sort of farewell present.

I had just finished the watercolour class in the Britannia, and spotted her sitting all alone.

 

I grabbed the phone and managed to get her indoors who quickly brought the passports down, and after a cursory glance our names were ticked off.

The cost of the coach transfer from Southampton to Heathrow is quoted as $90 per person on the Cunard US website as a post-voyage transfer option offered during the booking process. That's the same cost as listed on a Southampton Transfer Booking Form collected on board QM2 this past September. If you wish to add this transfer to an existing booking prior to your voyage, call Cunard customer service or your travel agent. Otherwise you may book the transfer on board.

Is the taxi booked through Cunard or independently?

 

I am also concerned at the availability of taxis/private hire vehicles on Sunday June 23rd. QM2 is scheduled to dock at the distant QEII terminal and there are 3 other large ships in port on that day - totaling almost 15K passengers. 

 

In my past experience taxi drivers prefer the short lucrative journeys over longer distances when there is great demand.

Uber runs in Southampton and so someone will want a nice run to London if they see it advertised. But don't worry about taxis outside the terminal, there will be plenty of them there, and though yes mostly they run to the railway station or Southampton Airport, they will pass a job over to a colleague happy for a few hours up the motorway. It's convenient but certainly not cheap. Pre-booking would be a better idea from a cab company based in Southampton. They will have the experience in terms of meeting point and what-not.

Thank you all for the information. Since I will be travelling alone and have no time restrictions I think I will try the Cunard bus.

We have just returned from a Princess cruise, disembarking in Southampton. We booked a National Express coach to London, they had other coaches going to Heathrow. For approx £25 total for the 2 of us. A cab to the coach station was less than £10. It was a comfortable, stress free journey. Sorry I don't know how to add a link but Google is your friend!
