kahuna21 Posted April 25 #1 Share Posted April 25 In the table-service restaurants, I assume the wine service is good—right? In the World Cafe lunch and dinner, is it easy to get a glass of wine brought to your table? What about a refill, or a second glass?

They are generous with the refill and people have been known to refill and then take their glass with them to other parts of the ship. If you have the SSP you are given a different glass so the staff knows what to refill. Edited April 25 by OneSixtyToOne 1
Rare CCWineLover Posted April 25 #3 Share Posted April 25 And if you have SSBP, they'll take your order of a glass of SSBP wine, and your room number, then go most likely to the Aquavit Terrace, get your order, and bring it back to you. This is also the case for the included sparkling wine and the included beer at meal times in the World Cafe.

There is generally one person on each side that is the "Wine Steward" although the other servers will serve you the included wines. We get to know the Wine Steward on the first and second day to know who we will chat with especially if we have the SSBP. Also know that if if you are just drinking the included wines and the included white today is a Chardonnay and you don't like Chardonnay, don't be afraid to ask if they have a different included white as they always have for us when we ask. 1
carolinetodd Posted April 25 #5 Share Posted April 25 Although the food is self-service in the World Café, waitstaff circulate constantly to bring drinks. We never had to ask for refills - when our glasses ran low, there was always someone magically at hand to refill them.

The ONLY time that you might have a bit of a delay is when half or three quarters of the ship were all on excursion and all return back at the same time. Otherwise for a "normal" service in the World Cafe, you should not have any issue with first glass or refils.
Mich3554 Posted April 26 #7 Share Posted April 26 It is very easy to get a glass of wine in World Cafe. We asked for a particular one, and the waiter that night continually topped off our glass. Did I mention we did not have the Silver Spirits package? Despite having provably 5 glasses between us, we were charged for 2. The waiter brought it from Aquavit to his station, and kept it nearby to top us off.

We generally find the servers on Viking to be very accommodating and generous.
MSEm Posted May 13 #9 Share Posted May 13 We had the SSBP on our Great Lakes cruise. I would not purchase again. The wine by the glass price is cheaper that I can get at a local restaurant. We have also requested a different red or white wine that the "wine of the Day". I suggest you check the wine menu before going to the World Cafe or dinner. We found if we do not name a wine, they would go to a bar to get a wine menu taking up a lot of time.
