cb at sea Posted March 26, 2006 #1 Share Posted March 26, 2006 I just read something that I never knew, so I thought I'd pass it along. Did you know that camo clothing is not allowed to be worn by civilians in many of the Caribbean Islands? I never knew that! (Not that I wear it--I'd rather be seen!!!) However, on some islands, the officials can actually confiscate your clothes if you're wearing camo... (The article didn't say which islands, so...) How embarrassing would that be? I have heard it at the "port talks" on ships. The cruise line will warn you in advance before you get off of the ships not to wear it.
JoFromFL Posted March 26, 2006 #3 Share Posted March 26, 2006 I know it is not allowed in Barbados as we were there Wednesday. That is the only place I have heard this so far, but there may be others.
syndyj Posted March 26, 2006 #4 Share Posted March 26, 2006 This is very true, we are not allowed to wear camouflage in Trinidad and Tobago (but some civilians do wear it) and I have had an item of clothing confiscated in the airport at Barbados.I think you would have a greater chance of having your clothing confiscated when you are coming into the country via airport of cruise port than if you just happened to be wearing it in the streets. Normally, you are given a warning if seen wearing it in public in Trinidad and not stripped of your clothing. But I can't vouch for what happens on other islands. Alexis Posted March 26, 2006 #5 Share Posted March 26, 2006 You DO NOT want to wear it in Jamaica. Never mess around in Jamaica. ;) This is from their website. It is illegal to wear (or to buy or sell) army or police camouflage clothing.
cb at sea Posted March 26, 2006 Author #6 Share Posted March 26, 2006 Jamaica sounds like Va. Beach!!! They've gotten very "family friendly" in the last few years--(not a bad thing) and have posted "no cursing" signs!
Nliedel Posted March 26, 2006 #7 Share Posted March 26, 2006 Their militaries wear it and it would be like someone impersonating a member of the military in this country.
Cotton Posted March 26, 2006 #8 Share Posted March 26, 2006 I've never seen anybody on a cruise wearing camo. However, that's interesting info. (You certainly don't want to rub those guys the wrong way.)
