Rare sid_9169 Posted June 5 Author #651 Share Posted June 5 Finally it was getting close to 5:00, so I started walking back towards the tiki bar. I had my eye on one their drinks I saw on their online menu, so I went with that first.
Rare sid_9169 Posted June 5 Author #652 Share Posted June 5 The drink was pretty good, but maybe not $18 good. I decided to have one more since I'd come all this way. I asked about a margarita, and he suggested a soursop margarita. I've had soursop juice before in Nassau, so I figured I'd give it a go, if only for something different.
Rare sid_9169 Posted June 5 Author #653 Share Posted June 5 It was okay, and after I finished it I asked for the tab. Paid the guy off and went to visit their restroom before walking over to the steak place. I didn't have a reservation so I wanted to get there right when they opened, and hopefully they'd let me in... 22
Rare sid_9169 Posted June 5 Author #654 Share Posted June 5 (edited) A few more from my walkabout between the tiki bar and the steakhouse. Edited June 5 by sid_9169

Rare sid_9169 Posted June 5 Author #656 Share Posted June 5 (edited) Before I get to the steakhouse, I forgot a few pictures from when I returned from the beach to take a shower... Ariswan had cleaned my room and I had my only towel sculpture of the entire cruise. Edited June 5 by sid_9169
Rare sid_9169 Posted June 5 Author #657 Share Posted June 5 (edited) Okay, now we're back in real time after I left the tiki bar and arriving at the steakhouse. There were about ten people standing outside already when they opened the door, and I didn't have a reservation so I just sat down at the bar. I asked the guy if I was dressed okay, and he said that I should get free dinner for the t shirt I was wearing... You've all probably seen it before... Rare sid_9169 Posted June 5 Author #658 Share Posted June 5 Okay, so now we're at the bar of LG Smith Steakhouse, Aruba... I had what they called a mezcal old fashioned... Also some kind of complimentary thing from the chef. This loaf of bread was absolutely addicting, and it took everything I had not to eat the entire thing...
Rare sid_9169 Posted June 5 Author #659 Share Posted June 5 Before dinner arrived, I had one of the local beers. On the menu tonight: filet medium rare, Brussels sprouts, and macaroni and cheese. This turned out to be the equivalent of better than the fish at the food truck on the beach, and probably my best meal of the week on land or sea...
Rare sid_9169 Posted June 5 Author #660 Share Posted June 5 By the time I finished it was beginning to get dark, so I started walking back towards the ship. There wasn't anything else for me to really accomplish this day, although I still wish I would've picked up some Cuban cigars... When I got back on board Alchemy was packed so I just went to Pig and Anchor Bar for a few glasses of the good tequila with three ice cubes. This would also end up being the latest I stayed up the entire cruise: 10:00...

LatinaInTexas Posted June 6 #664 Share Posted June 6 Wow that was a nice long and productive day. Aruba is very pretty and the food all looked amazing! One of these days I'm going to get brave and get off the ship and go somewhere that's not a ship excursion. You make it look easy and appealing.

Rare sid_9169 Posted June 6 Author #666 Share Posted June 6 (edited) Throughout the day yesterday, the cruise crud quickly made it's way from the scratchy throat phase to the runny nose situation. In the overnight hours that transitioned to the giant wads of fleghm stage. Hopefully by the end of the day today it'll level off into the going away and running it's course phase... Not really looking forward to whatever happens over at the 'ol salt mine today, but then I'm never really enthusiastic about it... Bonaire coming up next. We have avoided it by wearing masks inside the ship if in/near crowds. Not our favorite thing to do, but better than getting sick. Also used a ton of purell.
odie1024 Posted June 6 #668 Share Posted June 6 @sid_9169feel better, hopefully you're on the upswing. I seem to always come down with bronchitis when I cruise and in April it was so bad had to visit the medical center as I still had 4 days to go before I got off the ship.
Rare sid_9169 Posted June 6 Author #669 Share Posted June 6 Fortunately I feel better now than when I got up this morning. Just a little 48 hour thing I suppose. Hopefully I can get to Bonaire around lunch time today...

Rare sid_9169 Posted June 6 Author #671 Share Posted June 6 Wednesday May 29th. Bonaire: Even though we had a short port day here today (back on board at 2:30) I wanted to try and make something out of it. After another sleeping marathon I was up at 8:20, and went down to Ocean Plaza for my usual large black Americano. The line is always short to non-existent here and I wondered how other people just couldn't catch on that they had everything they have at Java Blue, just without the line. Anyhoo, my little secret I suppose. Another breakfast up at the buffet, which I was certainly getting my fill of this week. Bacon, scrambled eggs, and beans. (No pictures) I ended up heading outside around 10:30, and my goal was to take the public bus down to Te Amo beach, which I'd read is where the locals hang out. There's also a couple of food trucks there that I wanted to check out. My only clue whatsoever was a screenshot of the place in town to catch the bus. A place called Wilhelmina square and there's a Cuban restaurant there as well, so that's what I was looking for. I asked a bartender at a local place and she apparently didn't speak English at all. When I asked her about it, she pulled a beer out of the fridge and said "this?"... I asked a waitress there and she said it was "a couple of blocks that way"... So, I'm on a mission now. I did eventually find the spot, but never saw anyone waiting nor any busses or vans coming through. I asked another local and they said that there's no such thing as the public bus, and then another local told me that you have to "call the bus on the phone"... I wasn't exactly getting anywhere at this point, and I'd already wasted over an hour looking for it in the blazing hot sun. By this point it's almost noon, and I wish I would've just tried getting a cab or something over there, but in my frustration I ended up just going back on board the ship at lunch time... *** This is the one and only picture I took on shore in Bonaire. It's what I believe to be a sign for the bus stop, but apparently it doesn't exist, or they're keeping it a secret from visitors.

Cruise crud, norovirus & covid all all viruses. The FDA actually went after the makers of Purell for making unfounded claims that its products prevent and help stop virus spread.
Rare sid_9169 Posted June 6 Author #673 Share Posted June 6 According to my notes I went and laid out in the sun for awhile since it was nice out, and then took a shower before heading to the deli for lunch. I got the hot chicken sandwich which was actually pretty good. (No pictures) And, then a little plate of random stuff from the buffet. After that I ended up watching TV in my cabin since I was bored. After that I had a few straight tequilas over at Pig and Anchor Bar with Danni the bartender there. Then went outside to watch sail away from deck 5. There was a sea turtle swimming around down there that grabbed the attention of dozens of people, so I just hung out there to watch the turtle. There was a group of drunk girls on a balcony above blasting country music and singing along loudly. Another group of Spanish speaking people with another loud speaker blasting their music. It became a competition to see who could annoy the most people, and I believe they both won... It was past time for sail away, so I believe they were waiting on some passengers to return. A few minutes later a little van sped all the way down the pier and right up to the side of the ship. These must've been our tardy passengers, and soon after they dropped the lines and we sailed away. After that I went over to Alchemy and just waited for them to open. I had a few Patron Silver cocktails begrudgingly, and hung out there for awhile until it was getting close to dinner time. I did end up having my camera there at Alchemy this afternoon.
Rare sid_9169 Posted June 6 Author #674 Share Posted June 6 The only other pictures I have from this day were my dinner from the Seafood Shack. A lobster roll that was actually pretty decent... According to my notes it was another going to bed early night for me, which had become the theme of this cruise...
