Discovery card

We are on an upcoming cruise to Greece/Turkey with 4 day extension in Athens. My friend wants to bring her Discovery card but I am unsure if it is widely accepted. Anyone have experience (good or bad) with using this card in these locations?

Discovery cards are definitely not well accepted in Europe. Good luck!!

Tell your friend to bring a Visa or Mastercard which are accepted everywhere.  Discovery will be practically useless.  AMEX will be accepted by many, but a large number of merchants will refuse them because they charge a higher commission to the merchants than either Visa or Mastercard.

 

And whatever you bring, always ask to be charged in the local currency, not in US$.  You will get a much worse rate of exchange if you charge in US$.

I have found DISCOVER cards to be totally useless in Europe and lately, pretty useless in large parts of the northeastern U.S.
