Touring the Tower of London

Recommended Posts

I am so looking forward to touring the Tower of London, and seeing as much as is possible.  Is it possible to see all in one day?  TIA😊

As with anything, it depends how 'in depth' you want to be, but I would generally say that yes, its possible to see the whole thing in a day. Also, if you have the time and are fairly close to the Tower, I would highly recommend the 'Ceremony of the Keys'. https://www.hrp.org.uk/tower-of-london/whats-on/ceremony-of-the-keys/#gs.awscoq

If you want to go, book it as soon as you can (if your date is still available), as only a limited number of people are allowed in each night.

Thank you, Simon!  That is exactly what I was hoping to do!  I also remember reading about the ceremony of the keys;  thank you for that reminder!

If at all possible arrange to go to the Ceremony of the Keys.  It is something you will never forget.

Thank you, gunnywife.  I will look into this once we have our dates set up for our visit to London😊

If you mean "seeing all of the Tower" in one day, yes that's entirely feasible.

If you mean "all of London", no - not a chance.  A month might do

Thank you, Island2Dweller.  I was talking about seeing all of the Tower of London.  Certainly not all of London!!  🤨LOL!

In order to attend the Ceremony of the Keys you would have to spend a night in London.

You  go to the tower at night when it's closed and are let in by invitation only.  Hope for a slightly rainy and foggy night to really get the experience.

I hope you let us know how you liked it if you're lucky enough to attend.

Thank you!  I do hope our friends are also interested in the Ceremony of the Keys, and that we will luck out in getting the tickets!  I read that the tickets will be released at the beginning of August for our September visit.🤞

And do not miss the Crown Jewels, it was amazing!

Thank you!  Hopefully we'll get there early enough before the Tour buses arrive!😉

If you are not able to get tickets for the evening ceremony of the keys, consider a tour in which you enter the grounds before the tower opens to the public, and you can watch the ceremony to open the tower.  I did this a couple years ago, a private tour booked through Get your Guide or Viator, can’t remember exactly.   Very enjoyable.  You beat the crowds to the Crown Jewels, too.
