  1. We stayed at Premier Inn, as well. Nothing fancy, but clean and convenient for shopping, restaurants and cruise port. We were just there for one night. We had breakfast and dinner at the hotel. It was very good. Others traveling with us ate at nearby restaurants and enjoyed their meals. Would recommend the hotel with one problem. They do not have a toll free line so it's hard to contact them.
  2. I started this topic a year ago and I just wanted to tell you we returned in July from a wonderful cruise to the British Isles. I had a great time. Granted there were things I didn't do or I did differently than on previous cruises but things turned out just fine. I had lots of help from family which made things a lot easier. My main problems were at Heathrow airport. If you have any disabilities at all please keep in mind it is a hard airport to navigate. Help is minimal. And using wheelchair assistance or using your own walker is very difficult. The crew were very helpful when getting on and off the ship. And I must say the crew on the Regal Princess were the very best. In all my 38 cruises this crew was totally the best. I'm thinking seriously of taking another cruise. This one to the Med - Greece and Rome. I can only hope these airports will be better for the disabled, But who knows. It is what it is and I'll cope with it. Just wanted you to know everything went fine for this old lady and i wouldn't be hesitant to do it again.
  3. Please suggest the best person to send a letter of praise to about a recent cruise. i would appreciate 2 or 3 names
  4. Both of you have been a big help and I truly appreciate it.
  5. I have requested wheelchair assistance at airport. I am also taking a collapsible walker on this trip. My question -- is there some way the walker can be attached to the wheelchair or would I be better off just using the walker to navigate through Heathrow? I'm sure others have dealt with this issue and would appreciate your suggestions. I've been on many cruises but this is the first time I feel I might need a walker at the ports. Another question - will I have help getting off and on the ship with the walker. and how do I deal with the walker on a tender? I just want to be prepared for any problems that might arise.
  6. Master Card or Visa? Are both ok to use in the British Isles? I know American Express isn't as popular due to the charges.
  7. Trying to decide on how much euros and pounds to take on this cruise. I realize Europe is practically a cashless society and mostly credit cards are used.. But I might need money for incidentals such as a beer or coke. And also if I want to tip the bartenders, room service people and room stewards can I tip them in US dollars or would it be better to tip them in pounds?
  8. We've booked Blackberry Cars. I've done all our communications by text and they get right back to me. I've checked several private transportations and they seem comparable in price. We won't be using them until June and we're flying in the day prior to the cruise so they will drop us off at our hotel. Hope all goes well.
  9. Is there a problem getting a cab to and from the port to Edinburgh?
  10. Benthayer: I wish we were going on the same cruise. You sound like a lot of fun and ready " to go with the flow" no matter what.
  11. I have definitely decided to take the collapsible rollator. My carry-on fits right on the seat when I am using it. And if I get a wheelchair at the airport I'll do as you suggested and hold it on my lap. I'm not the only one doing this. Thank you all for your suggestions. Much appreciated.
  12. If you use a rollator when you de-plane at the airport and you have a roll-on carry-on, a c-pap machine and a purse, how do you handle it all. That's my dilemma. right now I'm considering taking a rollator so I would have it on the cruise. But It would probably be easier to get a wheelchair at the airport. Please tell me about any experiences you might have had.
  13. Sorry. Used the wrong words. Not invitation only. Tickets are needed. We took our grandkids and they loved it. With things being canceled during and after Covid I'm glad they still do the Ceremony. If I were to be spending any time in London I would definitely want to go again.
  14. Several years ago we went to the Ceremony of the Keys at the Tower of London. It's held at night, around 9 pm by invitation only. You usually have to make your reservations well in advance. It is a wonderful experience and not to be missed. I would definitely recommend it.
  15. I've decided to ignore the offer. I'm happy where I am. But thanks for the input. I appreciate it.
  16. This has probably been covered many times, but now I'm paying attention. I just received the e-mail about the upgrade offer. To make it easier for me please list the pros and cons. I'm traveling with others and our cabins are near each other. So to me accepting an upgrade could be on the con side. Not knowing anything about this upgrade thing I need your help.
  17. Moondogy: Your guess was correct. My husband was a proud retired Marine. He passed three years ago after 64 years of marriage. We did use the military OBC many times. Now, unfortunately I'm not able to take advantage of it.
  18. Three couples want to dine at the Crown Grill. We all want to be at the same table. But each couple will make their own reservations. How do we make it clear that we all want the same table even though we are making reservations separately? Can we do this on line or should we talk to the manager of the Grill as soon as we get on the ship?
  19. I started this topic last June and now I just want to tell you that I have made the final payments on our cruise to the British Isles. We're all looking forward to a fun trip. Thanks to all of you for your encouragement and suggestions. They were greatly appreciated.
  20. Does anyone know where the wheelchairs are located at the Southampton port. I feel between waiting to board the ship and the walk from the port area to the ship it could be a long way so I'd like to have the option of being in a wheelchair. I'll have a wheeled carry-on, a c-pap machine and a purse, so it could be pretty cumbersome for a long walk. I just want to be prepared.
  21. Derbie: We are going by Blackberry Cars from Heathrow to Southampton. There are 5 of us with 2 walkers. They have arranged a van for us. So 5 is not a problem for them. We also have two others coming in earlier and they have a car from them.\ You can go on their website to ask questions and they answer right away. Payment doesn't have to be made until a week before the cruise.
  22. After lots of research I have booked Blackberry Cars. There will be five of us with one collapsible walker so they have arranged for a van. Our daughter and son-in -law are coming in earlier and will have a car. They answer your questions quickly. And payment isn't expected until a week before the cruise. They told me where they will pick us up at the airport and will deliver us to our hotel in Southampton.
  23. I'm sure this has been asked many times but I can't find the answer. We are taking private transportation from Heathrow to Southampton. There will be 5 of us in the van. Do we tip this driver and would it be based on a percentage of the cost of the trip? Seems like we should tip for the long drive and the fact that luggage is involved. I understand that tips are not expected in cabs or pubs, though in pubs is might be appreciated. Also, if using a wheelchair at the airport or cruise port should we tip? And, when taking a ship tour do we tip the tour director and driver like we do in the States? We're used to tipping here in the US so I sure want to tip where it's expected or appreciated, but I don't want to insult anyone. Sound like I've never cruised before. I have cruised many times but never with private transportation and never when using a wheelchair.
  24. The Princess tour is well worth the trip. My husband ( a retired Marine) and I took this tour a few years ago. We both had tears in our eyes at the cemetery. You will visit the beaches, the cemetery and a museum. And then have a nice lunch and a drive thru the towns. It was a memorable tour. Jim and another man from our tour saluted the flag and the graves. That's something I will always remember. My family and I are taking the same cruise in June, but this time we'll do the Paris Seine tour, which was their choice.
  25. Does the Regal Princess carry Coke Zero or should we carry a 12 pack on the ship?
