Upcoming Carnival Splendor Drydock

Recommended Posts

In just a couple of weeks she will be going in for her drydock.  Any insider information on what is being added or changed?  We cruise on her in November so we are wondering about any changes.

Thanks in adance

Carnival has mostly been removing casino bars for more slot machines, ripping out lounges for more staterooms, rebranding the sports bars to the Hero bar, and repainting the hull. They've also been adding more ADA accessibility features, like lifts at the main pool.

The days of Carnival dramatically overhauling ships during drydocks seems to be over for now. Although I think many of their ships could use it.

Nothing major. Significant changes were made during the previous drydock.

No insiders here. Just armchair admirals. 🙂

One beneficial dry dock add I think is happening on all CCL ships is the addition of USB outlets on the nightstands.

That's not something they have to wait for drydock to do.

That's true of just about everything above the waterline. But it is disruptive to passengers, and faster and easier if they aren't in the way.

For sure, but they can and do accomplish these things when cruising because it is cheaper to do them when they're not paying for expensive drydock time.

They have to pay for "'expensive' drydock time anyway, for required below the waterline maintenance. Lots going on during drydocks. The staff that would install the lights is not the staff that is painting the hull.

I've been on lots of cruises and never seen any kind of maintenance like that performed during a cruise.

I've seen carpet replacement and of course painting and lacquer work during cruises, and I recall some years ago on Ecstasy they replaced the tabletops in the MDR on turnaround day so they could get rid of the table cloths.

On the recent drydocks of Glory and Legend, ALL of the hallway carpeting was replaced - not a piece by piece bit. I've seen an occasional mattress replaced, but not ALL of them.

To replace bedside lamps with USB and US outlet versions requires some electrical work and inspection. It requires more than unskilled labor.

Carnival Triumph was having staterooms updated while in service prior to the drydock in which it was converted to Carnival Sunrise.

I bet those staterooms weren't in service. Same with Victory.

Correct. Victory's were actually done well before the scheduled drydock to become Radiance, which of course wound up being severely delayed due to the shutdown.

Triumph had reduced capacity for her final sailings before her onversion.

  • 4 weeks later...

Just found this:

"The Carnival Splendor is on her way to Singapore for a dry-dock, in preparation for the upcoming 2024/25 wave season.

The ship which is based in Sydney year-round will return on September 9 with refurbished spaces, updated amenities, and much more.

Carnival Cruise Lines will arrive on August 5 and stay in dry dock for nearly three weeks. The company says passengers can expect new dining options, more amenities, and enhanced experiences for both children and adults.

The ship will then head back to Sydney on August 24."

Looking forward to hearing what the bolded features above are.

Interesting. Splendor currently has a bit of a unique casual dining offering. I'll be interested to see the changes. My hope is that they don't eliminate the Marsala Tiger Indian venue or the Mongolian Wok. There certainly is room to modify the upstairs Lido and create Cucina or a JiJis (or the combo we've seen elsewhere). I could also envision a Bonsai Sushi being installed on Deck 5. Time will tell.
