Port Canaveral port area- things to do?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

It's been a few years since I had a day Stop in port Canaveral. Are there any shops or restaurants within walking distance of where the ship docks? I will be on the Msc meraviglia.

MSC typically docks at terminal 10 which is north side of the draw bridge. All the restaurants are south of the bridge. No pedestrian traffic is allowed across the bridge so no, you can't walk to them.

I never use them, so I don't have an answer to that. My thought is that they would but it's a very short ride to the port restaurant area, perhaps a better chance if you were going into Cocoa Beach area. The longer trip might be more enticing for them.

I have a couple of questions. 1--Prior to our cruise, we are staying 2-nites at the Holiday Inn Express in Cape Canaveral.  Is there a transportation system available?  How readily available are Uber or Lyft cars?  Taxis available?  We will want to go to restaurants (lunch + 2 dinners) then to the Disney dock.  Would a two-day, one-way, airport-to-port car rental work best?

2--After a 3-day Disney Wish Cruise, we are transferring to the Caribbean Princess.  How difficult will that be?  Is there a port shuttle between ships?  We have done this in Miami on a port shuttle. And at Port Everglades using an RCI/Celebrity-only shuttle, or using a taxi with a minimum fee.

If it were me, I would do the rental car for the freedom of movement to any location you want. You shouldn't have a problem with Uber or Lyft at your hotel I wouldn't think.

We drive ourselves so don't know about any port shuttle between ships. Hopefully someone else will chime in.

Depends what activity, Cocoa Beach Hilton has a large tiki bar and beach chair service nice place to hang at the beach. Further down is old downtown cocoa beach with shops and restaurants so the location to put in is a bar called coconuts

If you're going to be in town for 2 nights, it really makes sense to rent a car. You can Uber/Lyft/taxi from your hotel to area restaurants but if you're flying in, you'll also need transportation from the airport.

Disney is at terminal 8 and Princess will dock at terminal 6 but there's not a direct sidewalk so it's a bit out of the way to walk it. Not sure how likely it would be to get Uber/Lyft to pick you up for that short distance but taxis are always sitting there waiting when we get off the ships. It shouldn't be that hard to get one to drive you over to 6.

Both are good suggestions! Cocoa Beach Pier is a little closer but I would recommend the tiki bar at the Hilton and/or downtown Cocoa Beach over the Pier. Being dropped off at Coconuts would give you more variety as there are several restaurants/bars and shops in that vicinity.

On the south side of the port in the Cove, there are a bunch of restaurants but only a couple shops. It's a shame the port doesn't run a shuttle between the north side terminals and the Cove. They could charge a nominal fare and it would bring some business to those places as well as provide a service for the cruise passengers. Seems like a missed opportunity.

On port of call days you can get Uber or Lyft drivers easily at terminal 10. I drive Uber/Lyft and the waiting lot always has plenty of drivers.

Would you mind telling me what an Uber/Lyft driver normally gets for picking up at the Orlando airport and dropping off at a Port Canaveral hotel and then on the return, picking up from the cruise terminal and taking back to the Orlando airport?

There is an estimator on the Uber app that will let you figure this out.
