Rare Harters Posted July 13 #1 Share Posted July 13 I’m after recommendations for a nice “country house” type hotel, with good restaurant, for a night’s stay pre-cruise, to get the holiday off to a good start. Definitely NOT looking for anywhere in Southampton itself near the port. If it helps to give an idea of what I’m looking for, we’ve previously stayed at Lainston House near Winchester and Carey’s Manor at Brockenhurst in the New Forest. We’d happily stay again at either but wonder if I can find another gem, just for a change. TIA John

KforKitty Posted July 13 #3 Share Posted July 13 MacDonald’s Elmer Court Hotel on the edge of the New Forest or Botley Park would fit the bill. Stayed in both a couple of times. Catherine
Rare John Bull Posted July 13 #4 Share Posted July 13 Hi, John, Never stayed at any of these, but have driven weddings to them, and to Careys Manor and Lainston House. They all fit the same bracket. Bear in mind that they will probably all be dominated by wedding parties at weekends, perhaps midweek too. https://www.limewoodhotel.co.uk/ near Lymington https://www.handpickedhotels.co.uk/rhinefieldhouse near Brockenhurst https://www.thepighotel.com/brockenhurst/ between Brockenhurst & Beaulieu, Related to the Pig-in-the-Wall, set in Southampton city wall. https://larmertree.co.uk/accommodation on Cranborne Chase JB 🙂
Rare Harters Posted July 24 Author #5 Share Posted July 24 Thanks, all. That's been really helpful. I can file this away to check out prices, etc nearer the time. John

Cathygh Posted July 24 #7 Share Posted July 24 New Place Hotel in Shirrel Heath or the Botleigh Grange at Hedge End might be worth a look, or the Old House at Wickham
Canuker Posted July 30 #8 Share Posted July 30 (edited) 1. Chewton Glen hotel. Recommend the afternoon tea (al fresco if it's fine wx). 2. Balmer Lawn hotel. A little less pricey but still VG. Edited July 30 by Canuker
