Enjoy the scenic cruising! The Star spent TWO days in there cruising up, down, left, right, repeat on the previous cruise after arriving to Greenland two days early from Iceland (where they did only one port out of 3) - to shelter from the sea storm that was passing along off the southern tip of Greenland toward Iceland. ENJOY! Make sure to visit Gatsby's for the Key Lime Pie and Rum Cake martinis!

Do you know if most of the ships were able to make most of the itinerary? Yes. Two years ago we were on the Star out of Reykjavik to Greenland (first 3 ports of itinerary) and then Iceland (2 ports) ... when we got to the ship the captain made an unfortunate (now, not at the time) decision to skip Greenland due to some sea storms (big waves, etc) brewing up in between Iceland and Greenland, and go to Norway (4 ports) instead and then back to Iceland as scheduled. It caused a bit of an upset amongst the passengers as Greenland was the sole reason most of us went on the cruise. So NCL gave us 25% back. We still enjoyed the Norway ports but in a hindsight (in my opinion) the captain could have swapped the countries like doing Iceland first then Greenland next when the sea storm was past, instead of dropping Greenland entirely and replacing it with Norway. It was the very first season NCL was going to Greenland. So, I think from that time on NCL seems to making more effort to get the ship to Greenland. In July this year two ports in south Greenland were blocked in with icebergs but the Star still made it to Greenland by going up further north to Nuuk (that wasn't on the itinerary, but the 2 blocked in ports were), but it caused the ship to miss one Icelandic port (Akureyri). So I would suggest you find a cruise that doesn't go to Greenland so you can maximize your chances in hitting all the Icelandic ports on your itinerary on other cruises. We've been to Iceland several times - both by sea and on land - but Greenland is still on our bucket list, so we are straying away from NCL and booked a Princess cruise next Aug that goes to 3 Maritime Canada ports and no less than 4 Greenland ports, and the best thing about it is that it's a round trip from New York. 🙂

There likely are many factors affecting the decision. The ship cannot just show up places. Things like berths and pilots must be scheduled, tides can affect when ports can be entered/exited, etc. I am not claiming there were not other options, but I suspect NCL and the ship's captain had more information critical to the decision than the passengers.
