Rare YVRteacher Posted September 8 Author #478 Share Posted September 8 Dad found a tiny duck Dad is perplexed by cruise ship ducks so this little cutie came home with me. It was glue gunned to a clothes peg but I removed the clothes peg.
Rare YVRteacher Posted September 8 Author #479 Share Posted September 8 Post peg removal it was bubble time!! The fog had lifted but it was still windy so these were tricky to photograph. I got a fair amount of bubble solution in my hair. 11
Rare YVRteacher Posted September 8 Author #480 Share Posted September 8 It’s Gift of the Gab activity time. This one suits my brain and is my favourite game on NCL. I won with a score of 21/25 and the next closest team had 12. See? Weird brain! Now I have a new cookie transport pouch and cards. 8

Rare YVRteacher Posted September 8 Author #482 Share Posted September 8 When Tahani announced our arrival in Ward Cove and security clearance completion she came back on for a second announcement to say that due to the mudslide the shuttle into downtown Ketchikan needed to take an alternate route and would be 30-40 minutes instead of the typical 20.
Rare YVRteacher Posted September 8 Author #483 Share Posted September 8 Ward Cove I know some people prefer morning arrival times but I like slow hamless mornings and afternoons in port. I asked for Beulah at the security hut. The guy in the hut said she got eaten. That cracked him up! Then he said she was out for a walk. Visual reminder: this is cuddle craving Beulah This is the first time we have encountered a line for the shuttle wending all through the building, strategically passing through the coats, dog toys, key chains and slippers made in China. I tested all the squeaky dog toys for quality control just like I check my dad’s desserts. That came out wrong. I did not taste test the dog toys. There is a musician. She is playing Sweet Caroline with more gusto than accurate notes. This song follows me on cruise ships like a bear traipsing upstream for salmon. It’s downright predatory. 1
Rare YVRteacher Posted September 8 Author #484 Share Posted September 8 We stepped into the terminal at 1:25pm and lined up for the shuttle without a detour. We: boarded the bus at 1:49 left Ward Cove at 1:50 Arrived at berth 4 in downtown Ketchikan at 2:07pm Bus driver Ian vowed the 7 mile drive would take 15 minutes because he is the best bus driver in the fleet. He is from Florida. His goal is to save up enough money to get his driver’s license. Ian says Ketchikan is a small drinking town with a fishing problem. Ian also reminded us that Alaska has more bears than people and joggers here are called fast food. The bus ride was chilly because we were in a rickety school bus and every window was fully open so it was like being in a wind tunnel. A wind tunnel of humour though, because Ian is great! 4
Rare YVRteacher Posted September 8 Author #485 Share Posted September 8 Our route was the same as always and there was no detour or delay due to the mudslide. Photos below were taken through the bus window. 12

Rare QuattroRomeo Posted September 8 #489 Share Posted September 8 Given the other jokes Ian made, I wouldn't be worried at all. Schtick perhaps, but at least he is entertaining! 2

Rare YVRteacher Posted September 8 Author #497 Share Posted September 8 At this time of year you need to pay attention where you are walking in Ketchikan. I like to find a tall person and stay behind them. 4

Rare YVRteacher Posted September 8 Author #499 Share Posted September 8 Salmon flinging themselves out of the ocean with gusto and individual style. Even the seals looked a little confused.
