Viking River Cruise - Frances Finest - A Night In Monaco Excursion Question

Going on the Frances Finest Viking river cruise in a couple of weeks with a 3 day pre-cruise stay in Nice.  Signed up for the Night In Monaco excursion which includes an "elegant dinner at a local restaurant" as part of the tour.  It's an afternoon/evening of sightseeing which includes a considerable amount of walking prior to dinner.  My wife is wondering how to dress since what's appropriate dress for sightseeing is not appropriate for and "elegant dinner".  Wondering if anyone has done that excursion and how women dressed.

I'm planning on wearing slacks and a collared shirt.  I have no intention wearing a jacket or tie on an excursion with walking.  The itinerary description says nothing about a jacket or tie being necessary.  They are certainly not needed for the river cruise which seems pretty casual.  Planning on going into the casino after dinner and they talk about jacket being recommended but not required.

This is an optional evening excursion with our French Riviera extension for the Viking Lyon to Provence cruise.  As of yet, we have no details on the evening so v interested in following this thread.

It depends on the casino and we haven’t been for some few years now but many used to insist on a tie but had them available for men to borrow. Ladies as long as you are in their eyes presentable! It was a very male dominated area of influence.

My company headquarters in Monaco.  I was there for two weeks recently eating out every night and I did not wear a jacket.   We were eating in "elegant" places and I was always business casual.  One night we were going to a special event at the Monaco Yacht Club and I was advised to wear a jacket but I did not wear a tie.  I was fine on all accounts.

Personally I would email tellus@vikingcruises.com and ask.  I am surprised that the shore excursion description did not say more about dress code, but I agree with above in not wearing a jacket for a walking tour before dinner.  That's kind of crazy.

Monaco is a "playground" and at the Yacht Club that night other events were going on and I saw the gowns and the tuxedos, but in general dining I did not see that.

When one hears  Monaco, one generally thinks of rich and famous, gowns, tuxes and Ferrari's While some of that may be true, fancy affairs are mostly private and by invitation. Places that avail their venue's to river cruise and such, know their guest be dresses relaxed casual.

I say dress for the walking tour, not the restaurant.  Monaco is not that special.

Agree.

Agree again.  There is money there for sure, but like the first quote, in general Monaco is not that special.

I had heard so much about Monaco and I felt so privileged to go there, but after being there, I honestly cannot say that I would recommend it to anyone.

Nice on the other hand, beautiful city and definitely will go back there to spend more time.
