For cruises booked within Australia and NZ, automatic gratuities do not apply on Princess cruises on the Australian-based ships. The cruise fares include a reasonable pay schedule for the crew that does not rely on gratuities.

It was an unannounced increase, as it is an onboard expense and really no different to putting up the price of a cocktail.

 

These were in the system over a week ago, with the new rate for pre-paying grats already showing in my personaliser back then. For our 30 days cruising from Southampton next June/July it will cost us each an extra $US60. I think we will manage.

 

As mentioned above, not big news in our waters - as long as we can keep Princess on the same $AU fare structure indefinitely beyond P&O Australia's exit.

Just build it into the cruisefare and be done with it all. Such a simple solution. Don't know why they don't roll it out everywhere. Sure there will be complainers. But they will go away over time.
