My Mom was born and raised in Brooklyn--she was a huge Dodgers fan.  When they left for sunnier pastures not only did she stop liking them, she stopped following baseball entirely.  I respect that!

When the ownership of the  Dodgers and Giants betrayed their loyal fans in 1958, it left the fans of those teams in a quandary.  It was extremely difficult to continue to be a fan of a team that you could never watch on TV, (there wasn't even a game of the week on TV in those days), and wouldn't even learn the score until you woke up the next morning.  On the other hand, if you were a Dodger or Giant fan, you could not possibly root for the hated Yankees, which was the only team left in NY.

 

Fortunately, in 1962, a new team came to NY, and despite it's early gross incompetence, won the heart of many New Yorkers.
