Maneuvering a multimillion dollar ship into and out of the port is a serious issue with 60+ MPH winds and churning seas. Pre covid we were alerted to a potential hurricane hitting the east coast of FL and FLL would be closed, ships will remain at sea, etc. Quickly changed flights from BOS to FLL by two days and arrived in time to hit Publix and Total Wines, then checked into Hyatt Pier 66. The ground level cabana like rooms were closed so we were given a room in the tower. Once the storm passed, ships could enter the harbor and roadway cleanup began. It was quite an experience. And our cruise went on as planned, though the back up with flights prevented many from arriving in time to board the ship. Darcy
nhraformula00 Posted October 5 #3 Share Posted October 5 The storm in the Gulf right now looks to hit land around Wed, and no where near Port Everglades. We were at Hyatt Place on S.E. 10th street on Monday, and Tuesday, when Ian hit the west coast on Wednesday. It rained on and off in Lauderdale on Tuesday. There was no flooding at all. Just 40 mph winds. Our 5pm flight was delayed 4 hours because of high winds but we got out as Ian hit the next day in Fort Myers.
