Rare travelberlin Posted October 8 #1 Share Posted October 8 For those on the Cruise between Fort Lauderdale and Lima, Ecuador is not in good shape and Manta and Guayaquil are considered no go areas. At least for my foreign office. And I think USA and Uk has also issued travel alerts. Does anybody know if Crystal is still planning to dock in Manta and Guayaquil? Ivi Ivi, the US State Department has issued the exact same travel alerts (Level 2) for both Denmark and Germany that it has issued for Ecuador. One needs to determine their own level of comfort for international travel. Living in Germany I would not venture in certain areas but the whole country is quite safe. I have been in the coastal areas from Ecuador about 15 years ago. And they were fine. But now they appear to be in big trouble because of drugs trafficking. In July this year the government of Ecuador has increased its military presence in Manta. Anyhow, you are right. Everyone has to determine their level of confort but in this case it is kind of a decision of the cruise company if they want to still keep those ports in the itinerary. Rare Keith1010 Posted October 8 #4 Share Posted October 8 Ivi, I am sure these areas are looked at as are many areas with alters. Sometimes the decisions to not go to a port are made early on but often not until much closer. In the end the priority has and always is safety. We have been on cruises where a decision has been made a week or so before arrival even though I remember I made the decision. If the ship went Anne Marie and I were staying on board.
