In Praise of AOS purser's office

Recommended Posts

We sailed on the 3/26/06 AOS out of San Juan. In the wee morning hours of 3/30/06, I got a call from home that my mom had passed away. This was a sea day for us, so around 10 am, I went down to the pursers office to check on procedures for leaving the ship. Although we did not book our flights through RCCI, the pursers office searched for all available flights out of St. Maarten on 3/31, then patched me through to the airline through the operator so that I was not charged for ship-to-shore minutes. They truly went out of their way to make things as easy as possible for us.

Becky............our condolences!

It's not often that we hear of positive steps taken by different ships departments........maybe when they are positive, we think that it's a given, so we mostly hear about the negitive.

I have seen situations on several ships that involved stressful passengers that have been helped by the staff, and it's wonderful for the acknowledgement here. Thanks for sharing your story.

Becky:

I had the same experience on the Explorer three years ago. My father passed away while we were at sea. The Purser's desk arranged the flight home the next morning from Cozumel, set up a customs appointment for me on board early the next morning, and they even provided an escort to the airport.

That is one reason that I will only cruise with Royal Caribbean.

Hey Parrotthead, what are YOU donig here? GET OUT THERE!!!

I am so sorry for your loss. I had prepared myself in case that happened to me. We have a cruise booked in May and my father wasn't doing too well. He did pass away on March 20th. It is hard enough to deal with the emotions of losing someone - especially a parent. It's nice to hear that RCCL acted compassionately and helped ease your worries about getting home.
