jessemon Posted April 14, 2006 #27 Share Posted April 14, 2006 Hi Jessemon, Sushi began in Japan a century ago and before that its origins came from countries of Southeastern Asia. However, the article points out how Rev.Moon and his company supplies the raw fish for sushi and dominates the American market today.Sorry, if I didn't make it clear for you. You can read it on www.ChicagoTribune.com Sorry I didn't get it. Read your opening line "I can tell you how Sushi began and by whom..." Then the rest talked about Rev...( ? ) Moon. I guess in my mind the opening line did not match up with the context of the rest of the post. I know you said that the "Chi Trib" had the article but can you narrow it down for us. I'd really like to read it. Like the writers name or the title of the article. Thanks for he help.
chicagolass Posted April 14, 2006 #28 Share Posted April 14, 2006 Hi Jessemon, The name of the article is in parenthesis above: "SUSHI AND REV.MOON." The Tribune staff reporters are Monica Eng,Delroy Alexander, and David Jackson. It was on the front page of the Chicago Tribune-- final edition-- on Wednesday, April 12, 2006. Hope you'll share your thoughts with me on it.

cat616 Posted July 14, 2006 #30 Share Posted July 14, 2006 To all you Sushi Virgins, The stuff that looks like smoked salmon is actually pickled ginger. My DH found out the hard way back when we were being initiated. He picked up the entire serving and popped it into his mouth. You should have seen his face when the mistake hit him    ... being the refined geltleman he always is when in company he ate the whole thing anyway. We all had a good laugh and we still chuckle any time we are reminded of that night. Happy Travels Cindy
rain_bowbrite Posted July 14, 2006 #31 Share Posted July 14, 2006 DARRENCANTWAIT Thanks for the website, it is very informative. Eel, pickled ginger?? I really have be adventurous!! Thank goodness Celebrity has the sushi bar, or whatever it is called, that way I will not feel so bad about trying a few, maybe I can get my husband to try it first!! Does Celebrity label their sushi? Hi ladybug I do hope you try the raw fish variety otherwise known as sashimi. It is simply delectable, especially the tuna and salmon. I can't explain how wonerderful it taste! It surprisingly doesn't have a fishy taste imo, almost buttery and so smooth....yummm!! Anyone who says they don't like it is someone who hasn't tried it imo:p !!
spookwife Posted July 14, 2006 #32 Share Posted July 14, 2006 Wasabi: Nuclear Horseradish. Pickled Ginger: yummers. I lived in Japan for three years.. and let me tell you.. The American version of sushi pales in comparasin. We are massively spoiled from our many trps to the sushi go rounds where you pay by the plate.. and each plate had one piece of sushi on it ranging from a dollar to ten dollars(with conversion from Yen) On our recent Carnival Pride cruise, it was a different selection each night, and the menu explained nicely what was in each piece. People would order a dozen California rolls at a time.. for themselves!
