Which job would you want?

I would probably say Captain or cruise director or something important like that.

Unfortunately my friends would likely elect me bartender at the Crow's Nest!:) I gained this reputation at two conventions. The first time the lobby bar was closed and locked up but I simply walked around inside and stood there talking to my friends on the patron side. Quite innocent but I shocked a good friend who thought I shouldn't be there so I continued to embarrassed her by playing pretend bartender. The second convention was one night where we kept finding bottles of wine and finishing them off. Let's just say that I seemed to gain this reputation amongst my friends I can't shake off.:o

BTW, is there such a job as ship's mascot? Now there's a wierd and easy job!

Put me in for engine room maintenance. I manage a maintenance department now and would dearly love to go back to mananging mechanical things than managing people.

I agree with CateW...

people can be very difficult so I would want to do something where at the end of the long day I'm done

I would like to be the IT person. I've steered ships and plotted courses in the Navy, and waited tables as a teen. Now I'm an IT manager and would love to do it on the ship. They are ususally all by themselves and responsible for almost all electronics on the ship.

Oh! What a great thread.

I would want to be hotel manager. Then I would go over the pax list and put some lucky people just barely able to be there a giant upgrade to the PH or a suite.

Wouldn't that be great! To make so many people happy.

I want to be the deck chair and lounge tester during sea days. At night I'd like to be the drink quality assurance manager. ;) Hey....noboby said I couldn't make up my own jobs. :) (Actually like future cruise consultant but was told they're slowly but surely pulling back on that position and many, if not most, cruises no longer have a consultant. Wanted to talk to one on our Volendam cruise and was told I could chat with Seattle on the phone....apparently for free.....I hope. Didn't do it.)

No fair Randy! That`s what I want to be.....the QA manager in the Ocean Bar. Other than that, I guess it would be the F&B manager..........like to shake up the menus now and then.

JHannah, you can get deep fried snickers bars in any fish and chip shop in England!!!........jean:cool:

I want to be on YOUR ship!

I'm not sure what I would choose. I'll bet the excursion staff gets to do excursions if they want (so they know what they're talking about when a passenger asks questions) so that might be fun. Some aspects of the cruise director position are appealing (like the trivia games, which had a small and cozy group of people). Wine steward would be an education. Pastry chef would be fun, too. Spa manager? hmmm....

I would definitely want to be a cruise consultant. Considering how many cruises we have been on, the various lines we have been and where all we have traveled.

Our TA tried to talk me into a part time position one time - no way - I didn't have time between cruises.

But being a cruise ship and getting paid to book cruises - now that's another story.

Entertainer in the Piano Bar. :) I already know the songs, and am a lot of fun. Now all I need is the talent to actually play the instrument and carry a tune. ;)

Either that, or quality control, specializing in pillow chocolate! :D

I wanna be Navigator. I want a cool white outfit with epaulets. I want to check the current charts use the parallel rule and compasses. Forget celestial navigation, and all that spherical trigonometry, though. Had one class in it and would brush up just enough to do show and tells for the passengers. Let GPS do the real work.

Undercover cruise quality control... you know, get on each ship and act like a paying passenger while secretly sending reports to Seattle about how various programs are working and crew members are performing. Of course, I'd want to do it for longer than a week... and I think it would require me to go on the world cruise. ;)

Raadsel, somehow I think you know already, but are you aware that your name means "riddle" in Dutch?

I told Debbie Buchanan a couple of years ago as we sailed the Amsterdam around South America that she had the perfect job. She is one of HAL's on-board cruise consultants also! While she was on the Prinsendam last year I believe she did the world cruise as well as summering in the Baltic, where we enjoying seeing her again. Now there is the job to have!!:D

I am afraid though there aren't enough HAL ships to support all us wanna be cruise consultants and the CC Board competition is pretty darned stiff!!;)

I want to be the person who serves the "free champagne" at all the ship's activities. The way I figure it, that person only works about 7 minutes each cruise....because every time I see an event in the program that offers free champagne (casino, art auction, etc.), no matter what time I get there, the free champagne is over!

I can't place you at the moment but it's always possible. As for my name, something Dutch seemed appropriate for this board. ;)

I would be an entertainer because it is one of the few jobs that has hours off that allow you to go ashore, and/or have some significant time when you're not on call. Your evenings are taken, and there are some rehearsals, but most days in port are free. You also are "admired."

An alternative is someone on the cruise tour staff whose primary responsibility is to accompany passengers on tours - but ONLY for a ship that is on a varied itinerary. Woe is me if those tours were the same week-in and week-out.

Final alternative (most preferred as I think about it) - I would work at home office. I would have a normal family life, but the option -nay requirement- to go on cruises to test "our product" on a regular basis. When aboard, due to my supreme importance, I would be treated phenomenally well.

All my choices are driven by the greatest chance to actually visit the exotic places OFF the ship, and the potential for uninterrupted periods of sleep and entire days off (vs. 24/7 for 6+ months at a time.)

DH starts to see the glimmer in my eyes and he starts to call me Julie. He knows that I only have one thing on my mind.....planning a cruise. DD has no idea what he is talking about (need to find the reruns somewhere).

I would love to be chef for a day. I have great ideas based on my travels and my attempts in the kitchen. Creme Brulee with a little ice cream and liqueur on top........did not like Creme Brulee in Pinnacle (it just didn't match up to some of the ones that I have had). All the other desserts were very good. Maybe some blackened green tomatoes. I would love to have all my favorites in one cruise. :D
