Bermuda Questions

I Luv Crusin

Recommended Posts

I would love to take a cruise to Bermuda next fall. As far as I can tell there are 3 cruiselines that go there regularly, Celebrity, NCL and RCI. My DH liked Holland America but I'll trying to weigh all options. I have some basic questions.

1) When does the fall 2007 schedule come out?

2) Is it rough getting to Bermuda that time of year?

3) How do teens do on a cruise like this? I'm thinking of taking my boys, they will be 18 and 17 at that time.

Is there anything I should know about cruising to Bermuda?

Thanks!

1.) I think it depends on the cruise line. X is not available yet but I'm booked on an Oceania in Nov '07.

2.) Our 1st time to Bermuda in Sept '03 was re-routed to New England & Canada due to extensive hurricane damage to the island. Our 2nd cruise in Sept '04 was hurricane-free and gorgeous! We'll be there again the week after next.

3.) Whether or not your boys enjoy the cruise will depend the ship and the type of activities that are available and that they enjoy. The smaller ships that travel to Bermuda from the East Coast are more sedate & cater to an a more mature crowd.

Hope this helps.

Enjoy!

The ships only go to Bermuda up until sometime in October, than they reposition. Your children would have a much better time in the summer as there are many families with teens on board. In the fall it will be an older crowd. You should also know that your son who is 18 is basically an adult on RCI and Celebrity. He can drink with parents permission and he can gamble in the casino. His options are therefore much more varied than the 17 year old. You should also try and book a ship that goes to Hamilton and ST. George as they are the more desirable ports in Bermuda.

We went to Bermuda in November of last year on the Voyager of the Seas.

It was a nice time to go as the season was really over. It was not crowded at all. However, we didnt have children with us, and by going that late in the season, alot of places are closed such as the parasailing etc. Also the water was too cold for us to really go in, even though the weather was absolutely beautfiul the water was not as accomodating.

I think I read somewhere that the fall season would be coming out in May.

I think the boys will love it. They have snorkeling, parasailing, and we did the helmet diving that was really great. Dolphin Quest was really neat too, to swim with the dolphins. I agree with Rachelsmemom, the ship choice is just as important as the ports you choose to go to. The bigger ships have more activities for the boys, such as the Voyager for an example. It even had an ice skating rink on board and a minature putt putt golf course. The Freedom of the Seas with Royal Carribean has a surfing pool on board. So you really want to look at the ships and what they have to offer. The bigger ships usually dock in Kings Wharf, but you can ferry over to Hamilton and St. George. We loved St. George for shopping. They have a bunch of nice little stores in alley ways that are really nice to get souveniers. When choosing to go in Fall, just remember to check the schedules of when things start to close up. If you go too late, even though, the prices of the cruise are good, there is a limited of things to do. Good Luck on your choice. That is the hard part. I am always glad when we finally decide and book it.

We went to Bermuda three years ago by Royal Caribbean out of New York.

Docked at the Navy Yard for two days; then, the ship went over to Hamilton.

We went in September -- Great weather!!!

One word of caution --

DO NOT let your sons rent the motor bikes/scooters.

They are dangerous!!!!

We had several passengers come back rather bloody!

There are buses that we used to get around.

We bought a three day bus pass and used the buses to get around.

Get out to see the grottos
