Hello All,

I keep reading about people being invited to dine at the Captain's Table. We have been on 9+ X cruises. Is there a criteria to get invited? Does it depend on the cabin you are in? Just curious.......

Never been asked,

Bella

You get invited if you are an Elite Captain's Club member. If the number of seats at the Captain's table is less then the number of Elite members on the ship, they invite the ones with the most cruise credits.

We were invited to the Captains table on the Zenith and had only sailed on Celebrity one previous time. I think it was because we had some issues with our stateroom and it was a goodwill gesture on Celebrity's part. It was a very interesting experience to say the least.

With the number of Elites on each cruise these days, I think it is unfair to even list that as a perk. So few get asked (only 10 seats per table and some sailings only have 2 formal night, 2 seatings, then there are always people who the Captain wants to ask, doesn't leave many openings) that I think they are better just to not list it.

On our Zenith cruise last November (our 2nd cruise with Celebrity), we were asked to dine with the Capitan. We were at a table for 2 and Camille, the hostess, was making chit-chat in the dining room. She looked over at us, we both made eye contact and smiled. She came over, we chatted for a minute, and she asked if we would like to join the capitan for dinner. I believe it is a bit of luck, but you can improve your chances by showing how truly happy you are to be cruising. Show you are having a great time and smile, smile, smile. Celebrity makes it easy!

The stars must have been perfectly aligned that week because we were also upgraded from oceanview to the best CC cabin (IMHO) on the ship.

I agree with you especially since those occupying the more expensive suites are ahead on the list. Then there are also officers who for whatever reason refuse to host a table.

The Club is supposed to undergo some revamping. We'll have to see what happens. But the first thing they need to address are the short cruises vs 10 and 11 nighters. One point for each is hardly equitable. And they need a new category to match Diamond Plus at the C&A.

Not always so.

The Captain may be requested to have some people to dinner at his table by the home office.

It's the Captain's club hostess to put all this together.

Where the two meet is something of what is the actual.

The Hotel manager nad Captain's club hostess drive the use of the table.

Yes. You will usually see the Captain down at dinner the first formal night.

Then maybe the Hotel manager hosts the second or last formal night.

The Captains club hostess get's a list of the Elite members in advance of the sailing. She also has choices she can make.

Some of the criteria - Elite members, Suite passangers, people who have had problems they would like to impress.

I know on the last Galaxy Sailing the two suite's got invited. As the couple who had cruised the most on each dinner seating. And they had a wild card choise from the social hostess.

But knowing the social hostess from the last cruise - while she was cruise staff - did not hurt. As she saw and remembered me from the last trip.

I'm sure each trip is done a bit different. But the goal here is to have a fun table for the captain to come to dinner and enjoy.

This is like the Captain's #37 priority while on each trip.

You are quite correct in the above statement. Add to that that the Maitre D' has imput into the recommendations for the captains table.

It helps to have a pretty wife too.... Our last cruise was my 2nd on Celebrity, and her first - booked in a CC room. I think her looks is what did it. Everyone else at the table were young, 35 and under couples.

ParrotHead4Life, I agree that the crew are influenced by pretty females. My wife is blond, swedish, and pretty and we got an invite on our first cruise on Mercury in 2003. We were in an cat. 9, inside cabin so our cabin sure could not have influenced them. My thought at the time was that it was due to it being our first cruise and Celebrity was trying to garner loyalty with new cruisers. But in retrospect I think you hit the nail on the head. BTW we turned down the invite as we were traveling with another couple and had a table for 4 and did not want to leave them without dinner companions. We didn't even tell them of the invite.

I agree with ParrotHead4Life and CalKev,

We have cruised Celebrity ten times and have been invited to the Captain's table five of those cruises. Since we always take the first seating, our experiences have been with the senior officers. My wife has always been seated next to the officer. On the Summit a couple of years ago, we actually hid from the social/Captain's club hostess, thus avoiding another invite (feeling guilty). This past December holiday cruise, the Galaxy used the Captain's table for a large family, so no one was invited first seating. Being tall, blond, cute, funny and happy helps a lot. I just go along for the ride.:)

Our last experience was with the Chief Engineer on the Century three weeks ago. All of couples were in suites, or were Elite CC members; we were in a Cat. 10 inside cabin.

Enjoy!

I agree too, for all the reasons listed above.:)

On our VERY FIRST CRUISE, we were asked to

join the Captains table, via an invitation under our door.

We do not know how on a ship with 2,000 guests we

were selected, for this formal event. My wife was seated next

to the Captain too. The only other connection

were 5 of the people seated at the table, all worked in

aviation careers. I am not too sure how this entered

into the picture because I don't remember ever listing

my career job in any Celebrity forms.

(Maybe just coincidence.)

And, we were not even

members of the Captains Club at the time.

With 5 of us talking airplanes/aviation, it was a fun

evening...Another couple were bankers from California.

One thing I did notice...EVERYONE at the table

had lobster...the Captain had a big steak:D

I have bee invited to teh capatins tabel on one of my cruises. I knew the captains waiter from sailing on previous crusise where he was my waiter. He got us to be invited.

On another cruise a couple at our regular table got invitedt. he was a plastic surgeon and met the hostess. Itw as the hostess taht got him the invite.

I am told that the highest suite on the ship "Penthouse suite" occupants will get an invite. The captain may pick a few names to invite if he knows them, this is not very often. The hostess will usually have the largest pick while the matre'd gets a few.

On most cruises the Matre'd has no one to invite nor does the captain, so it is usually up to the hostess and lots of LUCK

we were invited while on our very first celebrity cruise. The social hostess came by our table the first night and got to know us. Our last celebrity cruise the same. The social hostess met us while boarding the ship.

Nothing to do with cabin booked or cc statis..........

There is no more social hostess. Hasn't been for some time.

SOP:

Suites

Higher up Elites

Captain's choice of guests overrules the above, though most do comply. It is the Captain's Club Hostess who puts together the list. Some are better at putting together tables than others... along with the rest of their prescribed duties.

BellaBaci4, we used to wonder about that ourselves, having been on 20-plus cruises and no invites. But on our first Celelbrity cruise (Infinity, Alaska, July 2005), we finally got our first captain's table invite and here's how.

My wife, the reader of fine print, noticed that you could exchange your RCI cruise credits for Celebrity, which we did, to become, (is it?) Elite?

Next thing we know, Mahalia calls us and says, "Since you have so many Celebrity cruises under your belt, we'd like to ask you to dine with the captain." My says, "Well, actually, we were RCI regulars." And Mahalia says, "I can work with that." Suffice to say, we got called up to the mike at the captain's party, my wife got a bouquet of roses, and that night we ate with Captain (and I gotta use phonetics here, cause I don't know Greek) Ski-lodge-ionis. At the stern, big table under the rear windows.

FYI, the other guests included the owner of Atlantis, a large, special interest travel agency and his assistant (they had booked an entire Celebrity ship for a future cruise), a retired freighter captain and his wife, a retired Army Colonel (in full dress uniform) and his wife, the captain, and me and my wife. Got the photos to prove it.:D

In 2004 we did the "Horizon" out of Tampa for an 11 night cruise at Christmas. We booked a "CC" class cabin. When checking in we were escorted to a separate line and were the only ones there. We were being checked in and the social hostess or whatever they are called these days came over to talk with us. She was very nice (her name was Majalia) and asked alot of questions. It was only our second cruise with "X". She wrote a few notes on her pad. Later in the day we had an envelope in the cabin. An invite to the Captians table the next night which was the first formal night.

The Captians name was Anastasios Lekkas and he was very nice and entertaining. We ran into him the next evening in a lounge and he came over and said "Hello Mr. & Mrs. J****. I said please call me Jeff. He said Mr. J...I know you call me Captian out of respect so why would I not call you Mr. J.....? Point was well taken. We ran into him often during the cruise and always talked.

I have to throw my 2 cents in. My wife & I were on our first Celebrity cruise in April 2005. We were invited to eat at the Captain's Table the first formal night. I think they randomly pick people that will make for a enjoyable evening. Kevin
