dznymom Posted April 21, 2006 #3 Share Posted April 21, 2006 There have been a few posts about the recent Fantasy cruises. Either do a search or check back a couple of pages, and there are a couple of threads that will give you some good info. Everything sounds great to me, although they have missed HMC due to winds. We will also be on her on Monday (WOOHOO) and I am hopeful we will make HMC. Jennylw24, we have a roll call going, but it is still on the Sensation board. Pop over and catch the few of us that haven't left already. We are planning a little get together at Sailaway.

So never been on Fantasy, although Carnival says it is similar but threads are saying Fantasy is better??
sheshasmom Posted April 21, 2006 #6 Share Posted April 21, 2006 I just got off Fantasy yesterday(4/20). Ship was wonderful! If you are planing on just hanging out on Grand Turk just know there is maybe 5 stores open and 1 is Margaritaville. There is a nice beach and a pool right at Margaritaville. I don't think they where done with Margaritaville one of the staff there told us the grand openning would be in a week or 2. We also found a lot of glass (beer bottles) so shoes are a must on the beach, Maybe water shoes would work best. Oh and please people don't take the conches (sp?) THEY ARE STILL ALIVE! I must have seen 10 people taking them.:( I give the island 2 years and it will be one of the best to see. We did not get to HMC because of winds. The staff we talked to told us they have yet to see the island and are kinda bumed about it them selves. It looked really pretty from what we could see of it. Nassua was nice I've been before they didn't give us much time there so if your a shopper (like me) I wouldn't book a excursion. Only becuase this is the only island they had shopping on this trip. I fell and some of the pushy taxi cap drivers helped me out. LOL The last time (10/05) we did the Zoo excursion, it was cute. The people we sat at dinner with did the sting ray excursion and loved it. Only one thing I didn't like was to get to the kid camp you had to walk thru a bar, the only place on the ship you could smoke a cigar  kinda dumb if you ask me. Cotopaxi Posted April 21, 2006 #7 Share Posted April 21, 2006 We sailed on the Fantasy on 4/10. Beautiful ship, in great condition. I do think they need more entertainment at the pool area. Weather was bad so did not get to go to 1/2 moon cay. Rained while we were in Grand Turk, but we thought the beach was beautiful. We did not see any bottles or trash but were off the boat early, and left when it started raining besides we had an excursion. There are however a bunch of rocks/coral at the entrance to the water, it is fine if you swim out further, and not too deep, but I agree with the water shoes thing, would be very helpful. We did the snorkel tour from the beach. You take a trolley, but could probably walk it as well, very close. Beautiful beach there, but not much snorkeling, if you are looking for that, then book one of the other excursions. If you just want a quieter beach then Governers Beach (I think that is the name where we went) would be a nice place to go. Our kids loved the pool at Margaritaville, and having the DJ. Both places have nice public bathrooms.
dznymom Posted April 21, 2006 #8 Share Posted April 21, 2006 sheshasmom, glad you had a great trip. I am packing the water shoes as soon as I get off this computer. Thanks for the suggestion! Since our chances of getting in to HMC seem slim, we will probably go to the beach on Grand Turk. I remember you posted on the OPC thread, and I was wondering if you met the Casino host, or if you received anything in your stateroom.

Cruisekid87 Posted April 21, 2006 Author #10 Share Posted April 21, 2006 Thanx for the Update Shesh... So Goveners beach is worth going to or what??? Any good excursions on Grand Turik as we plan to shop in Nassau since I hear that is the only place to shop out of Grand Turik, 1/2 Moon and Nassau? Also did they compensate you at all since you had to miss 1/2 Moon Cay??? Anyone try the Sushi on the Fantasy??
cruz addict Posted April 22, 2006 #11 Share Posted April 22, 2006 I, too, was on the April 10 Fantasy cruise. The ship was great- the staff is extremely friendly and efficient and the refurbished bathrooms and bedding were the bomb! In Nassau, we got off the ship and made aright and walked a few blocks to the British Colonial Hilton. The place was fabulous- beautiful pool, bar, beach with lounge chairs and umbrellas. We purchase a day pass for $15 each and had a fabulous day with an excellent view of all the ships that were in port. HMC was rained out, but it looked gorgeous from our stateroom. Grand Turk was a disappointment because it is far from ready to be a cruise port. There were not enough taxis and only one ship was there! Shopping was non-existent and Margaritaville had a beautiful pool area, but the Dee-jay was cursing and saying "inappropriate" things that I would not want my children to be exposed to. The water is gorgeous and the island people are very friendly! Personally, I'll try this cruise again in a few years when Grand Turk has gotten its act together. Enjoy your cruise, the fantasy and her staff made up for any disappointment we experienced.
hartwest Posted April 22, 2006 #12 Share Posted April 22, 2006 Glad that you had a wonderful time. We are going on the Fantasy on 6/29 We have teenagers and a 9 year old. Do you think it is better to get a pass to the Hilton or take the water taxi to Paradise Island? Do you know if they have passes all year round? Thanks !! Also, did you play mini golf on the ship? I read that some passengers couln't paly beacues people took the golfballs the first day and there were not enough.:)

I just wanted to address the first sentence but don't know how to just quote one sentence!!! If you just want to hang out at the Grand Turk "Port" it is only Margaritaville and a few shops (most shops closed cuz of the rain on 4/10 sailing) There IS a whole other part of the island to explore . We would have done a lot more if not for the rain:cool: !!! Don't think the locals will agreee with them needing two years to be the best to see;) They have been there for a very long time!! zqvol Posted April 22, 2006 #15 Share Posted April 22, 2006 HAL has been going to HMC for years, check their boards for reports. There is also a new POC board form Grand Turk. I will tell you that if Gand Turk is anything like it's sister island, Provodenciales, (Provo) it is beautiful, undeveloped and has great water activities. cruz addict Posted April 23, 2006 #16 Share Posted April 23, 2006 Hartwest. Yes, they offer passes all year round. Whether to go to Paradise Island is your decision. Just keep in mind that if you go to a public beach, there are no bathrooms, restaurants/bar, lounge chairs, umbrellas, and there are lots of annoying vendors. It really depends what works for your family. As far as the mini-golf, we did not get to play because it was way too windy or raining! I did read a good hint on another thread that said it would be a good idea to bring a few of your own golf balls. Hope this helps!
Cotopaxi Posted April 23, 2006 #17 Share Posted April 23, 2006 We were on the 4/10 fantasy and took a cab in Nassau to Cabbage beach on Paradise island. It was very windy that day so we only stayed couple of hours. I believe the fare was 4.00 pp, short taxi ride, then you just walk up a short hill, and down to the beach. When you go to leave there taxis are lined up. There are people there selling necklaces and hair braiding. There is also a person selling coconut drinks that you can buy for 10.00, then drink all day for that price. I think there were 2 choices of drinks. You can rent beach chairs for 10.00 a piece. We were told to use the bathrooms at the end of the beach, he said to just walk up and no one would say anything, as they are right there. Some people did this and had no problem. It was rainy and windy, so we did not play mini golf till the last day, getting balls was no problem for the kids, but I did bring my own just in case. There was a box that could be locked right next to the golf, that had all the clubs sitting in it, so those are easily accessible, I don't know if they locked it at night. HMillCruiser Posted April 24, 2006 #19 Share Posted April 24, 2006 I was on the fantasy, in february. The food is alot better than it was last year. And you should try to schedule your dinner for around 6:30, because most of the good shows are around 8 or 9.
