1 & 2 nighters worth it???

Recommended Posts

I've been many 7 and longer cruises, but only 1 3nighter. I see a few 1 and 2 night cruises now. Has anyone done these and are they worth the hassle of getting to the port (local I assume) and getting on and off the ship? What exactly is there (shows etc). Thanks

I wouldn't do anything less than 7 nights, but thats because I have to fly. Besides, who wants to stay on a cruise for only a few nights?? :-) (ok if i lived close to a port I'd probably do the 3 night cruises often).

I think it would be worth the C&A Credit...We have done 4 7 nighters the last 2 years, but we are hitting a 4 night mexico from LA later this month (May) We have discussed hitting a fewof the bahamas in the next year, for the 3 nighters, as we can hit 4 cruise credits fr the price of a single week. I want the upgraded status before I am too Old to use it....;)

No I'm not crazy thank you. These cruises are referred to as CRUISES TO NOWHERE. Like I asked before I was interested in hearing from people who may have done this. I've gone to hotels for 2 nights so I guess a local cruise may be the same.

Ahoy Judy!

I have been on, and continue to look for, 2 night cruises.

We LOVE 'em!

Depending on the airfare from where you are traveling .. it can be a GREAT Get Away!

It's a wonderful way for a 1st timer to TRY cruising!

It's a wonderful way for a Family to Re-connect for a couple of nights!

It's a wonderful way for a Sun worshiper to get thier fix!

And a wonderful way for a Gambler to enjoy a Casino Get A Way!

Negative? Usually when a cruiseline introduces a 2 nighter, she is coming out of a furbishment etc. .... Makes for a great ship, but a ship with 'hip-cups' .... meaning the toilets may not work perfect (they will do each deck manually)

but no big deal.

Other than that ...... I guess you might like to stay home? NOT ME!!!!!!!

Keep your eyes open and Bon Voyage!

I have not personally done the one nighter cruise to nowhere, but there is one from Miami that is 79.00 pp and it would be fun to get out for the night. wouldn't need to pack much more than a toothbrush, but it is 5 hours to Miami from where I am, so I will not be doing the one nighter.. we love the 3 and 4 night sovereign as we are 1 1/2 hours from port canaveral, and about same distance to tampa.

DH & I were just talking about these tonite... We wished they would do them once in a while out of San Francisco, but I have yet to see on. It is only a 1-1/2 hour drive so we would do it in a heartbeat.

Where can I get info on the 1-niter? We live about 20 minutes from the Port of Miami, and take advantage of the 2 niters when there is one. A great short getaway for us. We took our grandkids on their first cruise on a 2-niter. Just long enough for them to be away from Mom & Dad without getting homesick for them, long enough for them to like it, short enough for us to keep from getting exhausted from playing with them, long enough for us to really enjoy having them all to ourselves.

Michele:

I just did a search and I am not finding the one nighter at the moment. I will search some more.. I did find: there is a celebrity cruise, (ship is Century) 2 nights on Jan 4th for 200.00 that leaves miami. I cannot find the one nighter but I did find it on travelocity.com search by port and length to find them.

A couple of years ago, while our girls were visiting their grandparents in Florida, they were surprised with a 3 night cruise out of Miami. They were in Cococay and Nassau. It was a smaller RC ship; can't remember the name. The girls absolutely loved it, and all we've heard since then is how much fun it would be to go as a family on a cruise, which is why were going in June. :)

My parents have done quite a few of the 3 nighters. But then they're retired, live in Florida, so they can pack up and go anytime.

A few workmates, friends & I went on a 1 night on the Sapphire Princess from Seattle to Vancouver last September. We had a blast! It was a great way to try Princess, get away for a night, have a nice meal, watch a show, a couple of comedian shows later on at night, a few drinks. We were determined not to sleep but finally went to bed around 1245am. Woke up early (my sis-in-law) phoned and we sailed under the Lions Gate Bridge , first time seeing Vancouver from the water. To top it off, we had glorious warm sunshine!!!

Now there are 23 of us going for the upcoming 1 day from Vancouver to Seattle on May 12 on the Dawn Princess. My gf thinks it is great way to bump up her Princess credits. I just think it is great way to get away!!

I wish RCCL would do these short cruises in the North West cos I would be on them. :)

TY for your replies. I live in NY and icruise had a few 1 or 2 nighters out of NY but they were booked solid for the spring and summer. I am thinking of next year if they do it again. I know one was NCL and don't remember the other.

Since we live in S. Fla, they are a neat getaway, especially if they are on the weekend.

This past Jan, we took the family, DD's on the 2 nighter on the Century.

It was a wonderful cruise, and not much to pack.

We also got to check out the ship, which we were interested in.

I think a one nighter is really way too short..........you party late into the night and have to get off the ship early......

We did the Navigator 2 nighter a few years back and enjoyed it......I would do these again............

I've done 2-2 night cruises to nowhere and more recently an overnight pierside event on the Noordam. I personally feel it's way too short and not worth the hassle. Also, the feeling that you don't want to get off is really bad. Lol.

Carnival usually offers several 2 night sailings to nowhere out of NY and I did them 2 years in a row. They don't have them this year for some reason. I wouldn't do it again. While I enjoyed being onboard, it was just too short. Even a 3 night is too short, but that is the shortest I'd pay for. That said, if it's free it's for me! :) I'll be on the Freedom for 2 nights on the pre inaugural which is complimentary, so I won't complain at all!

Usually they just pay the fine...

It's cheaper to pay the fine, and get passengers on board spending money on drinks, and at the casino than it is just to sit a port and twittle thumbs... Plus as many pointed out these usualy immediatly follow some drydock/refurb time, so it can be used as a shakedown with real passengers testing out everything...

We did a 1 night out of Norfolk about 5 years ago. We took the inlaws and a brother and sister in law. We did it for several reasons:

I wanted to introduce to my family to my 'hobby'

My mother in law LOVES to gamble, but doesn't get a chance to do it anymore.

The price was equal to to a very nice night on the town including hotel.

Unfortunately we a had a Nor'ester blow thru that day. It was rainy and chilly so we were confined indoors. It also caused for a rocky night at sea. It didn't bother my H, kids and I, but a few of the others didn't like it one bit.

For an experienced cruiser, it is the best way to take a very quick getaway until your next big cruise. Best of all it is a chance to introduce family and friends to cruising.

We did a 2-night a few years ago on the Regal Empress...a fifty-year-old ship. It was a great cruise to Nassau.

April 14 we did a 3-night on the Majesty of the Seas followed the next Saturday by a 1-night on the NCL Sun (which we had cruised on for a week just 4 weeks before!)

We are looking for more!!! On the 1-night we did all the usual eating, drinking, and entertainment until about 2 a.m. I couldn't sleep so got up at 4:30 and got great photos of sunrise and arrival in Miami. Also, considering a 2-night over Memorial weekend. On the other hand, I would never drive long distances or fly to take a 1, 2, or 3-night cruise.

Also, we have a 1-night June 3 on the Freedom...I am trying to figure a way to stowaway for the next week!

RCI doesn't offer one or two night cruises, (except the rare turnaround in Europe) do they?

LL

Yes they do occasionally. For example The Navigator is doing a 2 day Paris cruise on April 26 and a 3 day Southampton, England on June 2 and August 25

Maybe if I lived near a port, I'd consider a short cruise, but I really have no desire to do anything less than 7 days. It would be depressing knowing that I only had a day or two on the ship! I would much rather save that money for a longer trip. Even though it's less time cruising, I'd rather do a 7+ night cruise every other year than a 1-3 night cruise twice a year. Plus, I love cruising because I get to visit so many different places. There's no way I'd pay for a "cruise to nowhere."
