There is the Russell Hotel which I heard was very convientent to the British Museam and hop on Hop off bus stops right there.

All Hiltons have earlybooking nonrefundable rate that is almost half of the normal rate. We booked Hilton Green Park in Mayfair for 90 pounds per room normal price cca 140)

Can you recommend a nice hotel in central London?

You would need to define "central London" because that covers a large area. Do you want to be near the theaters? shopping? museums? Budget is also a factor unless yours is unlimited because London hotels are expensive. We've stayed in several and the Rubens at the Palace is our favorite based on price, service, and location. We've visited London several times and believe that any hotel that has good reviews on tripadvisor.com and is in the main tourist areas will work because there are so many great options for public transportation (the Tube and buses are very convenient). We bid $82 on Priceline for a hotel in London Westminster, 4 star and got the Jolly St Ermins for late September. Just what we wanted with a perfect location. Total came to less than $100. By going to biddingfortravel.com you have a good idea what, where, etc. bidders are getting. We have been using Priceline for many years and have never been treated badly or had inferior rooms. :)
