Balcony's--Are they worth the extra money?

If the price difference is not huge, YES. We just got off Glory and our 1st balcony. Let me say, we will probably never book less than a balcony. Which means, we will not go on the smaller ships that only have suites for balconies. Can not afford that. It was only $15o per person higher than oceanview for our Glory trip. Definitely worth it!

It is definitely a different experience being in a balcony! Now if doing a balcony was not an option and I had to choose between an oceanview or not going on a cruise at all, I would take the oceanview in a heartbeat. Bottom line, a cruise vacation is like no other and is a really great way to spend a week away from the grind. If you can do a balcony, it will make the experience that much more enjoyable.

The balcony is not for me. It all depends on your lifestyle, needs and wants. For me I am very active, up at sunrise and in the gym. I also like to be up on the Lido Deck or in one of the public rooms meeting and chatting with my fellow cruisers. Just like open spaces.

Did have a balcony on one cruise and had a cigar smoker on one side and children on the other side.

We were surprised to be upgraded to a balcony on our second cruise. It was wonderful! Once you have a balcony, you'll never go back! We've had a balcony ever since. Definitely worth the extra money!

It depends on you, your budget, and what you want.

My wife wont do less than a balcony on 6 day or longer cruises but on short cruises, we find we dont spend much time in the room, and the extra money can go to the cruise line thru the casino and bars.

We enjoy having a balcony because we do spend a lot of time on it-sunning, relaxing, etc.

However, our friends always get the cheapest inside cabin and are very happy with it. They spend more time on the Lido deck and the lounges.

I think it might come down to what type of person you are- if you aren't going to spend much time in your room, why pay the extra for a balcony - but if you are like us and enjoy relaxing in semi-private atmosphere than a balcony is well worth it.

We had a balcony on the Pride and loved it. Our next two we had OV's. I loved both. We have a balcony on our next simply because it is 12 day(and in the Med.). I can go back to an OV on our next and love it.

Just put me on the ship.

To me? One cruise with balcony:)

Wrong!!! But then again, it's all a matter of personal preference, isn't it? I would much rather have two vacations and "suffer" with an inside or oceanview cabin on both. I think I could handle it:)

Right! All a matter of personal preference:) First of all I can't stay in inside cabin (Clastophobic (spell?) And second, alot of the ships prices for balcony are not much more than window room. So therefore balcony for me. (Plus I still do more than one cruis a year):)

That's another reason why I love Carnival--I can afford a balcony! I've cruised with inside, oceanview and balcony cabins. I like the balcony best. I stay in my room more and enjoy my balcony. Hubby loves it--he's an early riser and loves sitting out there with his coffee. If I can't afford a balcony I would just as soon have an inside as an oceanview because since I prefer to be outside I don't stay in the room very much.

If anyone in your family is eligible for the military discount (they need to be active duty OR have to have served at least two years and be able to provide a copy of an honorable discharge), you may find that the balcony is affordable after all! We were able to get balcony cabins on the Valor the week before Christmas last year for what inside cabins would have cost normally (about $699 pp). Cabins available at military rates usually go quickly when they are offered, so don't think too long:cool: .

It was our first cruise, and I don't think I would ever want to NOT have a balcony---LOL---spoiled for life.

The difference is significant. About $500pp. The only rooms with a balcony are penthouse suites. So, if you would have to pay a grand more would you just do the OV?:)

As much as I love the balcony, I would find it hard to justify an extra grand for it versus an oceanview.
