Which Airline????

We are doing a med cruise next June Venice to Rome. How long is the flight???

Any reccomended airline????? Recommend post and precruise stays???

Before picking an airline, you might want to go to a site such as Travelocity and check the routing from your local airport to see which comes up with the best options and prices. Also, don't forget to check this against what the cruiseline is charging you considering your arriving in one port and leaving from another. Booking with the cruiseline might be the better way to go.

I haven't been yet, so no recommendation here, but we're flying British Airways LA-London -10hrs then London- Barcelona-2 1/2 hrs. I just learned from a pilot last week that the best thing to do is always fly from the most northern airport, in other words if you were to have a connecting flight, connecting in New York shortens the flight than if you connected in Atlanta coming from the west coast. The arc north is shorter than going around, if that helps.

There are several air consolidators that are very very reputable and especially if you are going round trip and can get yourself relatively inexpensively to a gateway that goes directly to Rome can save you a bundle. Check CC's sister site www.independenttraveler.com for info on using a consolidator. Always go at least one day early. Consolidator we used also gave FreqFlyer miles and we took same flight we would have from here for 250 pp less on the same day.

If you are starting in one city and ending in another, such as what we are doing--Barcelona to Venice, then what you need is an "open jaw' ticket. The price for that was about 100-`50 more than the typical round-trip ticket to Barcelona i.e. If you can fly in and out of Rome, than several airlines fly that route from the east coast. The one airline, we did not look to book with was Alittlia, which is the Italian national carrier, they are having finanncial difficulties, and were told my some of the other cc to stay away-in case they stop flying, it may be different than when an US carrier has the problems, they still continue to fly and other airlines will honor their tickets, no so on that airlines, or so we have been told.
